Blew my engine, (hydrolocked)

LOL! :D Reeeealll good Unity!

Honestly...I'd contact the insurance, it couldn't hurt. Just make sure you don't get to the point where they tear down the engine to inspect the engine only to not cover it and now you owe the shop a tear down fee.

If you have comp coverage, I'd be calling them....if all you have is liability, no way will they cover it. Water in roadway, is road hazzard....should be covered. Call 'em!

hit a huge puddle today and did what my friend calls a hydro-lock, so he had me jam it into park after we pushed it to get it going,.

WTH???

your friend gave you bad advice.. jamming a moving car into park wont do anything to solve Hydrolocked.. in fact it will cause other problems.. like breaking your transmission.

I hope this isn't the same "friend" that has the shop, and is going to "work on your car".. if so.. I would question the motive of his "advice".

yea thats the same guy, lol. I have known him since we were like 12, we are 35 now. Oh well he seems to be a very good mechanic otherwise, I told him of all the suggestions you guys gave and how his actions may not have been the best. But he thinks....well whatever. Point is now I am screwed.

I'd seriously love to hear the thought process, the theory or WTF that guy was hoping to accomplish by jamming a moving car into park..

I'm jus sayin'

I was confused on that too. At first I thought maybe into drive, like you can with a manual to get it started... but this is a automatic. And park? All that would do is snap the parking arm.

Not only that....he said they pushed it to get it going??? Like its a stick and pushing it would turn the engine to pump out the water?? That would accomplish the same hydrolock effect as trying to start it. :err-what?:

That is what its sounding like.....wanna sell it? :D
maybe, how much?

so long as we all agree that your screw'd..well.. shruggs

500-700 dollar used motor and a day or so labor and you'll be back up and running.

p.s. my new mark looks just like the one in your sig
yea it looks like mine too, :( , I have to get the money now, new job=less income=bad timing

ok this is what he told me when I too, asked why? He said that since it wouldn't turn over, that jamming it into park would cause the engine to rotate and skip past the rotation it was stuck at. Doing that did, in fact, cause it to start right up, well with some work on the starter and flooring it. Prior to that it just would turn and not crank, (you know that sound when the battery is near dead and it turns like a split second?) well it was doing that.

I wonder if the city would cover it? If the drainage system was not up to the task or clogged, you *may* have something.

The city paid for my blow out involving a pot hole. That was a $2.5K check written to me based on two estimates I got. There is no appraisal of the car involved.

WTF!! Are you SERIOUS!? This guy is an idiot.

Putting it in park applies the parking prawl, which is like a ratchet on a gear. What you did, or he told you to do, is like putting a stick in the front spokes of a bike thats going 10 MPH. I'm suprised you didn't break the parking prawl! I bet he thinks he can push start an automatic too......(without going 50 MPH ofcourse)

Second....how would turning the engine over with the trans (or any way for that matter) remove the freaken water from the engine!!!?!?!?! Its HYDROLOCKED. Which means the pistons CAN NOT move up because the water is in the way. FORCING it is what blew your engine.

The ONLY way you can clear out an engine that is hydrolocked to the point it doesn not turn over is to remove the plugs. THE ONLY WAY.

OMG....I know this guy is your friend...but what he told you to do, costed you your engine. Hate to say it...but thats the truth.

Trying to start it and flooring the gas......again, you're just putting an enormous amount of stress on the rods/pistons.

*Deep breath* and *Sigh*

I hope this friend doesn't do the swap for you...I know its free...but at this point, he should be buying you an engine.
