Not Blowing Much

another reason this is not due ot vacume leaks is that even a complete loss of vacume would not cause reduce air flow. It would only cause all air flow to be directed to the defroster vents. According to the shop manual the system is designed this way to prevent you from not having defroster function. Vacume issues cause eratic or incorrect air flow direction....at least according to the shop manual.

Yes, or the flow would be split amongst the different vents. So if the blower fan is spinning fast but the volume of air is low then there must be a restriction or there is leak in the duct work and it is not making it to the vents.
Just hope it is not a rat that crawled up in there and will start to stink

sharon thinks i has been doing it for a while. the blendoor also works since it switches from hot and cold.

I've been thinking about this, and how you totally need to bring both cars... :D

And I think it has to be a duct that is no longer hooked up right, if it was an intake issue when the car switches to re-circulate the air, such as when the MAX-A/C button is pressed, you would be getting plenty of air (IMO)...

So, when the fan is cranked on high, can you hear air rushing around behind the dash? Is it possible that when the new radio was installed something was undone?

I would guess that if you pull the wood bezel and pop the radio out you could get a pretty good look into the dash without pulling the whole thing.

Just be gentile with the wood or you'll crack it. It bolts in place under the rear defroster panel, so that has to pop out first...

Have you tried disconnecting the blower motor plug and applying 12 volts directly to the blower motor?

I might have the same problem with my 98. I haven't had time to check it out yet.

The blower blows through the proper ducts, but it's a bit feeble compared to my 1st gens.

I put a meter on the signal going to the blower and it was 13v. I also swapped blowers between both cars and problem stays with her car.

But...

did you swap the Blower Motor Controller? I don't know if the Gen2 is different but the Gen1 has a module before the blower motor. That is where the blower motor gets power from. You may have proper voltage but it may not be outputting sufficient amperage!

EDIT... There is a controller - right next to the blower motor. Two screws and unplug the harness connectors. Swap them and try.

::: fingers crossed :::

did not try swapping the controllers. I did run the fans while holding them in my hands. them suckers really whip up some wind. I will try checking the amp output.

Fixed it. Turned out to be an incorrectly assembled cable between the motor and the controller. The wires were reversed which was probably making the motor go in reverse. I took it apart and assembed it correctly. I installed this cable in January. it has either been doing this the whole time or the dealer messed with it the other week.

Nice, now Sharon can have AC for the whole time driving to Carlisle :D
