I found my original Reinhart chip! The very first one i bought for the stock car with 4:10's and exhaust.[/div]

Off topic question, what comp code is that chip for?
do you still have it?
What do you want for it?

RE: Project newskin is underway.

Was built for DZA1 factory computer. F5LF-12A650-AB I paid 325.00 shipped to me. It is a Reinhart Automotive chip with the Jerry programming for the 4:10's and exhaust.
Ran flawlessly for my original setup before original Mark 8 engine was pulled for the 2001 Cobra SVT motor. Make offer in send message. I will list on auction site later on this week. Thankyou.

RE: Project newskin is underway.

I cleaned up the stereo installers routing of wires a little bit by using the factory wire holders. Following is the pics of new black carpet placed and trimmed to fit. I'll get to the wheel after i get the drivers seat back in. All 4 Black seat belts will be installed tommorow.

now would be a great time to put down some dynomat or other sound deading material :)

naa I thought of that too, but im trying to delete extra weight by pulling all unused electronic boxes and junk out that i dont need or use anymore like the phone and fact amp. Theres not really much anything else back there that i see thats adding all the weight. i think the heaviest things on this car are the doors, front K member, and the bumpers which could be made out of carbon fiber if somone wanted to get really crazy. other than that, theres not much else to this car that can be taken out that i see without severly modifying the luxury out of the car.

Gene Deputy with the Promod mark 8 had Carbon Fiber doors and hood made for his car..
The hood weighs less than 14 lbs..
The C/F doors with working power windows and locks are 80 LIGHTER than the stock doors.

Pics of the carbon fiber hood and doors are here

http://www.cyberbay.com/race/turbomark/index.htm

The doors alone cost 6K!
You'd have to not only CRAZY to do it.. but RICH and CRAZY!
*HAHA*

RE: Project newskin is underway.

haha Crazy i might be, but rich i am not. His car is pretty badass, thanks for the pics. I remember reading about that one a while back on the boards. In those pics it looks like only a custom interior panel was made with covering i can do.The doors look factory or did he have them sanded and painted?
I just took a weight of my "spare" fiberglass hood and it weighed 42.00 LBS even. I believe the factory fiberglass hood is lighter IMHO but havent pulled it out of the shed to get a digital weight on it yet.

RE: Project newskin is underway.

yea he sanded and painted them, the whole car is the same color.. now.

But he recently removed the C/F doors due to a rule change that had him "adding weight" to the car.
Rather than adding ballast inside the car, he just put the stock doors back on the car.

I "wishes" I could talk him out of the CF doors!
I'd really like to remove 160 LBS from the middle of my car!!!

That'd probably be worth .2ish in the 1/4

RE: Project newskin is underway.

Even if you made the mustang out of platinum.... it'd never be better than a mark 8.

RE: Project newskin is underway.

All kidding aside... that cf MUSTANG project is a very VERY good read.

Someone needs to kidnap that guy and tie them up in their basement and have him make us the "first all cf mark 8"!!!!

Good catch Lincolnboy, thanks for the link.

RE: Project newskin is underway.

Awesome thread! Thanks a ton! I just did a whole lot of copy and pasting... There is hope for old blue's diet... lol This guy is gonna get swampped very soon with orders from the Stang guys. Hopefully he hires the right people so he can continue his racing and doesnt become a slave to the buisness. It always happens that you dont have time to do anything fun for yourself or projects when you run a sole proprietorship. Your'e always working on other peoples stuff chasing the dollar and no time to yourself anymore.

Some shots of Steering wheel removal and instalation of Mustang FR500 wheel.

RE: Project newskin is underway.

Ok, this isnt going to work without fabbing up some new mounting tabs with fiberglass, or fabbing up special square "washer tabs" for the stock mark 8 rear steering wheel shroud to screw into. Here are some pics showing the differences of the mounting tabs. Apparently the mustangs rear shroud comes up a little more in the corners where your thumbs rest at 10 and 2 Oclock positions. Also they have bigger holes in the aluminum, exactly where our mounting screws for the rear cover go.
I guess Ford didnt want us to have the capability of the nice FR500 Mustang wheel. Well too bad, this will work. lol I just have to fab up some mounting tabs to accept our rear shroud cover. The hole that accepts our shaft was the important thing and it is exactly the same. here are some pics that show the mark shroud and the missing tabs for the mustang wheel.

Here are some more pics of black seat belts installed and holes cut for the seat bolts. Also the new shifter handle came in a few days ago.

I believe that material in the plastic bag is a thermal insulator.
