Quick, someone make me feel better.........

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Ok, just got back from vet, BAD NEWS...............

Leg injured, choices:

Amputate (remove leg)
Euthanize (kill)
Repair ($800 surgery) Cant afford

Dont know what to do................

You CAN'T afford it? When it comes to a pet there is no such thing as CAN"T AFFORD IT! Work out a payment plan with the vet, they do it all the time. If the surgery will leave him normal again then do it, don't leave him cripples! if not then the next option is amputation, he'll adapt very quickly. You DON'T put an animal down for a broken foot, he's not a horse!

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

I rarely get mad. This makes me FURIOUS!!! I can't afford it? Is that a joke? I don't care how you get the money, JUST GET IT!! If you have to sell your car, tough!!!! It's your responsibility to fix him!! It's your fault the poor thing was loose. People like you who "can't afford it" have no business owning ANY living animal. Now listen closely. Go here: http://www.petcareinsurance.com/us/cat/quickcare/index.asp

It costs $9 a month to protect kitty from most anything. We have them as our insurance company for our dog. We pay $35 per month for Dax. Covers everything under the sun. $5000 per visit. This company is great, as we've had to make a couple of claims. Fast and courteous. Top notch.

You will never have to utter "I can't afford it" again. Now fix the cat, and get the insurance. Or else. :)

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

I view my pets like others view their children.

Would you let your child die because you "couldn't afford" to get him or her the necessary medical assistance?

We spent almost $2000 trying to save my 14 year-old cat, "Beaner", from feline lymphoma. We eventually had to have him put to sleep, but it was the best $2000 we've ever spent.

In fact, just writing this post about him brings a tear to my eye. I would have cleaned out the bank account if I knew it would save him.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Which is why Pet insurance rules. You have far more options. If you only have $1000 in your bank, you may be limiting your pet to a $1000 treatment. But $5K on the other hand...well you can get the best of everything and never have to spend a thing (deductable of $50 whoopee) I heartily recommend anyone who has a pet, get insurance!!

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

When I was his age, $800 was like a million!

but you could get like 100 cats for that money!

j/k a 3-leg cat is better than a 3-leg chicken! That's just weird!

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Amen. And be sure to carefully read the fineprint of any pet insurance policy you purchase!

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

I know guys, we are trying as hard as we can to fit $800 into our budget, euthanization is not an option for us, it was something the first stupid vet suggested, tomorrow im gonna take him to another vet for a second opinion. If we cant get the $800 within 2 weeks we are gonna amputate, none of the vets we have spoken to do payment plans.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

RRocket - How quickly does PetCare approve and enable your policy, how many weeks/days?.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Doesn't matter how quick they activate it, no insurance ever covers accidents that happened before you were insured.

I didn't know about pet insurance, and i was planning on getting a dog sooner or later (soon as i get my own place). I'll have to get that insurance when i do.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Is there anyone in your family that is in the medical profession. I would try to set the leg myself with some splints and some gause and tape it. This should work if the animal doesn't need surgery to make some repiars. Definately get a 3rd opinion, most vets like to operate right off the bat. Afterall that is how they get paid. Also most vets will not offer you some kind of payment plan unless you ask. My vet actually lowered the price $600 when my dog needed a $2000 operation becuase I told him it was too much.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Let me get this straight, the cat is suffering with a broken foot while you "shop around?" Look, this is getting silly now isn't it? Don't tell me NO vet will accept a payment plan, if that's the case then he isn't worth going to. Any decent animal loving vet will accept reasonable payments over time.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Well, my uncle is a vet, he owns a huge animal hospital in Chicago, but we dont want to ask him for help because he hates cats and thinks my cat ate the birds he gave us, so we cant ask him, im not gonna wait more two weeks max, if we dont have the cash, its amputation time, were taking hm to a fracture specialist monday for a 3rd opinion. I know the cat is suffering but if we do anything now its amputation. We are trying as hard as we can, believe me.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

LOL a vet who hates cats.

I think this is getting a little rediculous. These statements just don't make sense.

OK, come clean. Is this really the truth?

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

So did we make you feel better? Cause I sure don't see you making us feel better.......

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Yes it is, Norm.

But we arent really that close with our uncle and he would laugh left and right if we told him we had moeny problems.

RE: Quick, someone make me feel better.........

Thank's Norm. It's about time! Two week's to get a leg set? That is one of the stupidest thing's I have ever heard. At that point they would have to rebreak the leg to set it. How about giving your uncles name to Trixie so she can stop by and talk to him. She has a way with word's. She could talk to him about your injured cat and the bird's he gave you. No vet would refuse to help an injured cat. They get in the business purely for the love of animal's. They are good people who make very little money just trying to help g-d's little creatures.
