SSHS8 Southern Super Heavyweight Shootout

Just got home. Mrs. Driller wasn't happy driving 10 hours today in the rental as I led the way home in the Blue Flame. Trailer queen my a...

Ring, ring... {caller ID shows it's the wife!}

"Yes?", I answer.

"SLOW DOWN!", were her only words! LOL! :eek:

Ah, we had started trailering the car this year on weekend events since it was getting too crowded in the Mark VIII with all the luggage, tools and tires. I had bought the trailer late spring of this year. Since we were trailering the car to SSHS8 anyways, we asked if Drill Bit and the daughter-in-law wanted to join in on the weekend. Now there was NO WAY we were all going to ride in the Mark VIII, so we had to get a rental.

Do you know we could not find a rental that would allow you to tow? Arghhh...

Anyways, both the truck and car had been towed to the wrecker yard(state law?). Once we all the required arrangements, 4 hours later we were back on the road with the truck and trailer left behind at the wrecking yard. We rented a Ford Edge cross-over SUV and I drove the Blue Flame off the trailer and away we went. By the time we made it to Commerce, the track had been opened an hour and since we were hungry we went and ate dinner. We had planned on visiting the track, but it was raining hard after dinner.

I'll get pics and vids up sometime this week. Meanwhile, all the stress must've took a toll on me because I couldn't buy a good light at the track Saturday and was eliminated in the second round. After being eliminated, I then beat on the car in the run all day lane for an overall total of 14 runs. :D

Meanwhile, one of our company drivers brought down a step-deck trailer Saturday to the wrecking yard while I was at the track and loaded both the F150 and the trailer and brought them back home. The trailer is not harmed from the incident except for the wiring plug.

If you look close at the trailer, you will see a set of rubber chocks in front of the Mark VIII. I used deck screws to mount them to the trailer so I could have a 'stop' when I load the car. That was all that saved the car from crashing into the back of the truck during impact.

Did you know?

The new 2008 AWD 6 cylinder Ford Edge and my modified 1993 Mark VIII get the same highway mileage?! They had the same fuel usage within one tenth of a gallon at fillups. :eek:

I was getting 24+ mpg in GA/SC and 23-21 mpg through NC/VA/WV. :)

AWD is a real gas hog way of operating. I had a new Expedition that had it and I hated it as I was driving about 30,000 miles per yr. The next one had the selector option to just 2 wheel drive and it was a big improvement. My Excusrion with the V-10 even got better gas milage. You would need to live in a swamp or in deep snow to justify that option to me again, I have no idea why FOMOCO would put it on their cars.

Sorry to hear about your truck JP. Sounds like that was an "adventure."

You should have have at least got a "Goody's Headache Award!"

Congrats and thanks to Mike for the win and the pics.

Hopefully I can make it next year.

Pics and a couple vids in my photo albums.

Mike congradulations on the run !! Thoses rear tires sure fill the wheel well. !!
Great pictures !!:roll_over::roll_over:

Thanks, Serg. I think that was the first, and last time you will see those tires on the car. :) I did not like them one bit. Thinking of going back to tubeless, with a much lighter wheel.

lol JP, Plain - That is the look I was going for :)

BTW, If anyone is interested, Brian (Fordnut) has some left over SSHS8 t-shirts for sale.

For anybody who is interested, event t-shirts are still available, check here:

Damn straight, haha. "DUDE!!!!" "Whats mine say?" "SWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEETTTT!!!"

lol J, :) That picture was taken at the end of the day. The guys in front of the car are re-attaching the silicone connector to the aftercooler and the blow-off valve tube. The pile of guys at the rear of the car are removing the slicks and putting the street tires back on.
