Vortech install started.

RE: Vortech install started.

Thrash it after you get it tuned. Give her hell. It will either break or impress you or both.

Just be careful when you start really playing around with it. The car will act totally different. You will like how much power keep comming and comming the more you rev it. very nice feeling.

It Might scare you a couple times, but you will get the hang of it in no time. The tires will break loose on you during higher speeds now. Try not to immediatly get off the gas, rather gradually let off while gaining control and getting your wheels straight. Many people loose control of higher HP cars when they let off immediatly when they have the car sideways and the tires bite with the steering wheel not turned straight. It is hard to fight that habbit but you will learn to do it hopefully not too late.

I assume Lidio will tune it on the dyno and then check the a/f on the road? Make sure you get some dyno numbers. You should be in and around 360rwhp no problem. Make sure he knows you want a very safe tune. Good luck. Another 12 second mark VIII is jsut a couple days away.

RE: Vortech install started.

Lidio generally does safe tunes. I imagine he'll put it on the dyno because of the s/c, but i'm not sure he always does that. He will drive it around the street for awhile to make sure the shifting and everything is just right.

I'd come by and see it being tuned, but i'm out of town at the moment.

RE: Vortech install started.

Well, I left the car at Lidio's today. He will do several dyno pulls, along with lots of driving. Again, he was very surprised it was running so well. We changed the spark plugs with a fresh set. The car should be ready tomorrow afternoon, if not, then Friday.

RE: Vortech install started.

I'll be back in town on Friday. Give me a call, we should get together and run 'em. Your first kill should be another lincoln. Martin's honda would just be too easy. :)

RE: Vortech install started.

I just got back from Lidio's. After several hours of playing with it, he came up with this:

http://mark8.org/users/madstgen/images/etrimdyno.jpg

I don't really understand the LOW numbers - the car pulls like a MOFO. It was really humid last night when he did this pull, but only like 70 deg temp. Lidio mentioned that I might have some air pockets in the cooling system, or the engine might be in not the best shape after these 110k miles. It might be actually little bit of both. I am seeing only 6.5 or so psi, so there is more power to be had, but he felt this was the safest, as I don't have a spare engine just yet.:D:D:D He set the shifts at 6400rmps - isn't that a tad bit low?

Anyways, I am very happy with the results despite the low numbers. I wish I had a pre-vortech dyno. This car was never a very strong one, so I am happy with what I accomplished.

I know that with the headers that are sitting in the beasement it will make more. But I need to take a break from working on this car - my knuckles are still bleeding.

RE: Vortech install started.

Looks good!

That's not really that low. You're 100 RWHP over typical stock numbers, with just an intake and the blower. And that's with a safe, conservative tune, and low boost. And you'll make more power driving down the strip, because the airflow will keep the car and the air charge cooler.

Now we need to run 'em }( ... when do you want to go to the strip?

I have some sticky tires you can use... if they fit. You might have to jack the car up a bit with the air ride, they're 27x12.5x15 NASCAR slicks mounted on 15x6.5" rims. They fit on my buddies supercoupe with very little room to spare. Note that 12.5 width mounted on 6.5 wide rims... they fit, barely, and they look mean. But for $5 a tire you can't go wrong.

What do you think, low 13's?

RE: Vortech install started.

Not 12's - that's for sure. If I'll have enough time, I need to pick up the Nitto DRs that have been waiting for me at the discount tire. I was going to go to Milan on Wednesday, but I might do it after Carlisle.

That's what Lidio said about numbers - especially with that low boost. But like I said, it's a DEMON now. If I had a higher stall, the car would be killer. I think it's enough for this summer though. I am buying a truck this Fall, so I will work on the mark during winter.

RE: Vortech install started.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together.

Only use the brakes to stop and get gas.

RE: Vortech install started.

Nice work J. I will give you a call next time I am going up your way, maybe we could meet for a refreshment as I would like to see your mod in person.

RE: Vortech install started.

Hell I thought you were going to run 8psi on it. Once you put the headers on there you should gain 20rwhp w/o cats ir so. Did he lock your convertor up in 2nd? I would not run past 6400 with your setup. It looks like he gave you some extra fuel the last 2000rpm's. Looks like a really conservative tune. You should have no issues at all. Another 15 rwhp could be gained up top if he had leaned it out. You are not making bad power for your setup and tune.

The important thing is you should have many many months of enjoyable, trouble free power. Congratulations Jeremi! From here you can only go faster. You should not have a problem running low 13's.

If you want 360+ HP it is only a couple of mods away.

RE: Vortech install started.

Thanx guys !!! you know I wouldn't be able to do it without your support and experience. http://mark8.org/users/madstgen/images/smilies/Bow.gif http://mark8.org/users/madstgen/images/smilies/Bow.gif http://mark8.org/users/madstgen/images/smilies/Bow.gif

I have a set of MACs that will be modded soon to go on the car.

I wasn't there for the dyno run, so I don't know if it was locked.

I need to go back there anyways, as Lidio set up the TC lock-up at 60mph only in OD. I do a lot of driving at 50 or so, so it needs to be changed.
What would be an optimal TC schedule for everyday driving ?

RE: Vortech install started.

I would lock it in 2nd gear and above.

Your convertor might have been slipping. That would cause a decrease in HP on the dyno. I thought you would be running 8psi. 6 is barely any. These engine amaze me on how much hp they pick up with just a tiny amount of PSI. Goes to show you what an engine can do with good heads.
