93 troubles...

Ok so i bought a 93 mark and put a new waterpump in it... started to drive it to my house, which the motor makes a horrible tapping sound at around 1500 rpm to about 2500 rpm, sounds terrible but clears up when you past that rpm range.

So i bought the car with a bad water pump, i changed it. Started to drive it home and i noticed the car wouldnt come out of 2nd gear. if i left it in 2nd it would stay but when it tried to go in 3rd it just starts slipping like its in nuetral and wont go. But before i could even check the fluid level, i look down AND THE CAR IS OVERHEATING !!!! wtf i just put a new waterpump in ! . And i failed to find the thermostat? where is it on the 93? is it an in-line thermostat, i took off that rail with the hoses on it but i dont see a thermostat.

You have to bleed off the air from the system to get the water to circulate. Hopefully you did not drive far.

The front of the engine near the alternator has a water pipe. You will bleed off air there.

trans problem is gonna be the one way clutch is "history"...its a common problem with the mark 8 transmissions from 93-97.

The reason It overheated after the water pump install is because you didn't get all the air out of the system.. again a common issue with the mark 8.

Hopefully you didn't pop the headgasket.. or the previous owner didn't already wound it before you got it.

These cars are VERY VERY sensitive to overheating, you might get away with it.. once.. twice...but by the time you overheat it the third time...it's "done".. "WELL DONE".

the thermostat is a remote set up.. it's located almost directly below the power steering resevoir. follow the top right hand hose down..you'll see the little aluminum housing that holds the thermostat.

99% chance the thermostat IS NOT the problem
99% chance the car is just "air bound"
1% chance it's already wounded.

The miss in the midrange is very very suspect to a lifted headgasket or coolant being drawn into the combustion chamber

Sorry to say.. the other car you had was probably an "easier fix".
R&R the motor and be done with it.

Ok the thermostat was the problem, and ofcourse i bled out the air... im not a total noob. That thing was a B*TCH to get off, and on. whew im glad im done with that. So now my next two issues are the air ride and the transmission. The air ride seams to just be the dryer bottle poppin off, when i press on it, it lift a little but i still hear a loud hissing noise. So once i figure out how the bumper comes off i can repair that. The transmission is getting a new filter and fluid, it looks a little low and really dark. Hopefully that will solve this issue.

Ohh and the oil is very very black too so im going to change it, i think thats giving me the tap, when i ran it today about 15 (for test) it drove fine no taps either from the engine, it rode great other than not having 3rd gear and air ride was slammed, LOL !

oh buddy, let me know what happens when you change the fluid. My 94 also today, slips out of 2nd gear and wont go int 3rd. I'm not sure where to go from here. let me know what happens.

I agree that it's most likely you're one way clutch. Mine just went a few months ago and would skip second alltogether then slip in second if I shifted it manually. I just dropped in a low mileage 98 tranny and couldn't be happier.

As far as your ticking does it sound like the attached link. If so I have no answer for you other than I have been driving my car with that noise for close to a year now and seems somewhat common in the first gen's.

Yea, but my oil is black and thin as oil. Not only that, its so intermittent , for instance, yesterday i drove it 12 miles and didnt hear it make that noise once, not once
