All hail the King!

I couldn't tell from the pics, are the headers on yet? What bolts are being used on the headers?

lol JP :) No, the headers are not in yet. I just got a e-mail from Bill@SCP that he shipped the headers yesterday. What is done: Focus pump is in, pinion brace, diff cover brace, poly diff bushings. Aric was welding the IC in when I left his shop, and was going to mock-up the blower to see how it is going to fit.

I ordered the header bolts from Bill. But, I am not sure if Aric will use them. Another thing - Aric likes to use Ford gaskets, and I purchased the Percy aluminum gaskets from Bill. I dunno :) I might have some leftover parts when it is said and done :)

I used all the factory stud/nuts on the drivers side header on my car, and only had to use 3 small 10mm head bolts on the top of the passenger side header with the factory stud/nuts for the rest.

Don't you already have headers driller? I'm guessing the bolts are a common issue with these cars...they must back out or are a PITA to get in.

I had the headers installed last spring. I bought the Jet coated Kooks with the 'best parts' - Percy's 'blow-out proof' gaskets and Stage 8 locking bolts. Turned out I needed 'special length' bolts which were a tad longer to accomodate the thicker flanges and gaskets. No sweat, I had the longer bolts before the install and used them.

Before the end of the season, the DS header gasket blew out! A couple months ago, I had a local mechanic replace the gasket. I bought the same gaskets from SCP and the regular bolts they sell. The mechanic used the bolts I provided and left me the Stage 8 bolts in a baggie.

Moral of the story? The mechanic and I surmised the bolts weren't torqued properly. He preferred the plain bolts. Time will tell.

So I guess I was asking for another 'expert' opinion. :wink2-green

Use stock gaskets and custom M8 30mm long zinc plated bolts with 10mm head. Works everytime especially for headers. Stock stuff is just as good, if you can use it.

Why did Aric replace the balancer ?

I see the resevoir is gone already, there is a nice spot for it on the driver's side, where the AIR pump used to be.

Aric did not want to take a chance on the balancer with over 100k on it. I was talking to Ryan about it - he runs Aric's office, and he said Aric is going with a stock Ford one for now, but might end up going with a racing balancer.

He told me the name of it, but I forgot  I think he said the cost is about double that of a stock M8 one, but I do not know the difference what makes it better to use.

Yep, I believe he said the washer bottle is going to the drivers side, and the air thingy by the balancer is history :)

I will ask Aric what he is going to use for header gaskets and bolts, and let you know JP. Leaky headers is something I do not want to dink around with in about a year. :)

The best OEM harmonic dampeners are the Maruader/ auto Mach 1 for your application. The racing one is probably an ATI but it costs around $400 but it's by far the best one you can use on the motor.

I pretty much used ALL the stock stuff, but I had to find 3 10mm head bolts for the passenger side header. I also used the semi-stock style gaskets from napa, but they were a bit thicker.

Wow this is taking a HUGE amount of time. Makes you realize that the Mark VIII is very different to work on that the Mustangs even though some have the "Same" engine in them. I am really glad everything is coming together well though.

Update - Headers arrived :) Took them over to Aric, and was able to snap a few photos. The MAF is going to be slick from what I have read, and what was explained to me. It is a slot style, and Aric mentioned that he is converting his SC customers over to it.

He said that it is mounted close to the throttle body, and throttle response will be awesome, with no lag like the MAF's mounted way up-stream from the tb.

I asked about the new balancer, and from what I have gathered for my application, using a new stock Mark VIII balancer is the way to go.

Aric is going to use Ford bolts and the Percy gaskets for the headers. :)

Mike, do you realize that as of today it has been 82 days?

You're gonna have to pickup the pace a bit. Only 208 days until SSHS7! :D

Right click....save as....Hope you don't mind Mike, but I'll be in the garage making myself some diff braces :)

Oh no....your exhaust is gone! He must have hacked all that out in the beginning!

Update - Headers are being installed. Ryan is sending me some pictures of how the install went, and I will post them. When the K member was lowered, Aric did not like the looks of my upper control arms and tie rod ends. So, they are being replaced. Here are a couple pics of what they look like:

Isn't it just great how little projects tend to grow in size and scope!!
Might as well check out the brakes. as after your engine mods your'e going to need to stop the beast. LOL

Update - Headers are installed. Had to send back the SC mounting bracket to Vortech and exchange the 99 bracket for a 98 bracket. Here are some pictures of the progress sent to me by Ryan.

Should be ready by fall... :wave022:

Can't wait to see it run though. :wave022::wave022::wave022::wave022::wave022::wave022::wave022::wave022:

Update - Ryan sent some more pictures of the Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump install. I returned home from Florida today, and stopped by to see Aric. The 98 Vortech bracket arrived today. Aric is going to install the SC, and send the Mark out to have the intercooler plumbing installed.

I have decided to make a couple more mods while I am at it. The first is going to be the brakes. Either Brembo or Cobra brakes. The brake pads will decide which ones I get. I need a very low dust brake pad, and I am not sure Brembo has one.

The second mod is wheels and tires. They will be 18" rims, and the rear wheels/tires will be wider than the fronts. I am having a real hard time trying to find a rim that I like, that has not been played out already. I am looking for the perfect rims that nobody has :)
