car sat for 2 years...

I'm finally getting my mark back together. It sat for over 2 years on jack stands. Put in a new fuel system.

Question:
What should I make sure I do before I start it up? I've done the usual, new fuel, new oil, new battery. Anything to help it start up right away?

Put some blocking under the wheels and check to see air ride is functioning before you drop her on the ground. It's a little bit of a pain to get a jack under the car when its slammed.

Disable the fuel pump or hold the accelerator to the floor to turn off the injectors while you crank the engine to build oil pressure to lubricate the rotating components. After 10-15 seconds, cycle the key on/off a couple times to prime the fuel system. Then start as normal.

Thanks Driller! I was wondering about building oil pressure.

Roadboss. No worries on the air ride. I haven't had that for about 10 years.

Beerdog. Thanks for the reminder. I'll need to wash the K&N filter.

Hopefully next weekend when I am finished with the new fuel system it will start again.

I see that. You guys going to carcraft?

I'm testing a new paint protection system at work so I need to get my car running and bring it in to work by July 1.

Excellent.

Yeah. I'll probably be at Car Craft. Eric twisted my arm pretty hard last year, and it was as good a time as he promised. I assume the same will happen again.

We'll all demand before and after photos of your paint, too. :)

I'm not sure how much of the paint protection system is still a secret. I can say that it is like those clear "bras" except it is spray on, then peel off.

It started right up...after I discovered I wired my main fuel pump backwards.

Speaking of fuel pumps, I measured the flow rate on the return line coming back into the tank:

With 1 pump - 1.0 gallons per minute.
With 2 pumps - 1.7 gallons per minute.

Only one real issue with staying it up. I saw about 2-3 drops of oil on the ground under the vortech. Haven't driven it yet as I forgot to put full coverage back on it before the weekend.

Sorry, it won't make it there this weekend. We do have a car show at work tomorrow.

I'll be at carcraft for a few hours Saturday, so I'll look for you guys. Do you tend to park anywhere in particular?

Last year, we were right about here.. If memory serves anyway.. http://goo.gl/maps/At2MB I know we had our backs more or less to the beer garden. I think Eric is going to be scoping out parking this afternoon. Hopefully the same spot works out. I liked it.
