First Time Ever, at 80 mph

Doing about 80 and the car started to shake a bit, then I smelled burning rubber, as I got into the breakdown lane the tire gave way and she started sliding around a bit. The Rim was undamaged. Unfortunately the spare tire in the trunk did not fit the bolt pattern so I had to call a flatbed. Should have been at the office at 6:15, got here at 9:30:eek:. Had to get a rental as they needed to order a tire. It is done now, need to figure out when I can get out of here.
The pic is taken after I put the blown tire back on.

I was driving about 80 and the car started to shake. Not sure what cut the tire or caused it to lose pressure. The inside of the tire was separated, pic doesn't show the damage to the tire.

You should get a spare tire from a mustang, just make sure it's a 17" spare so it fits over the front brakes.

Was that on 495?

Mass pike (i90) east bound just past Framingham plaza. 5:55am. Same place and time (different day) as the car fire on Wednesday morn. All is good now. Will get a spare, getting it to clear the front might be tough. Worst case move rear rim to front and spare on rear w smaller breaks. Just wish the bolt pattern lined up. Was under impression I was all set in that dept. time for all new tires and alignment any way. I plan to get another rim and use that as a spare in the trunk. Not like I'm concerned about a few lbs for a full spare given power to weight ratio.

On the plus side I might have had a bad karma morning but decided to stop off at favorite pub for some beers after work and got 5 rounds bought for me (and others at the bar) thanks to good people and keno. A few free beers with good people is about even for having a tire blow out. Afterall, no damage to the car which is all that matters.

You need a mustang cobra spare. They are out there. Car-parts.com has them listed also. Beware, some people think they are made of gold.

Sorry to hear this, but glad you got it taken care of with no damage to your car.

I am in the same situation as you, not having a spare to fit over the mustang hub staggered wheels over big brakes. I decided to buy AARP roadside service instead of having another wheel made. Knock on wood, I have not had a flat yet, but have gotten my money's worth out of the flat bed. :)

17" Cobra spare wheel DOES NOT fit over the Brembo calipers.

2000 Cobra R came with a '98 Cobra style wheel as a spare, but no one seems to know if it was in fact a 98 Cobra wheel, or just a look alike with a smaller offset. Probably due to rarity of the R ;)

Later Brembo equipped cars come with a FRPP kit M-19543-C, which is a tire sealant kit.

Most sports cars these days do not have a spare wheel, so it's getting difficult to find anything that could possibly fit.

Yes, swapping front to back could work, but we all know how much fun that would be with a stock tire jack.
Also, usually the rear wheels and tires might have a suspension clearance issues in the front.

I recommend a good quality Run Flat tire, like the Michelin SP2 ZP (zero pressure) tire. I have a set on my vette, and it's far superior to the stock GY tires it came with.

Im not gonna run a 'run flat' tire around here. My buddies BMW has them and they are aweful with all the potholes and bumps.
I plan to get (4) new rims and tires at some point and will keep a front tire in the trunk as a spare.

It was a '98 Cobra wheel, which fits over the Brembo calipers just fine.

That blows! (No pun intended.) What I'd give, though, knowing you're safe, obviously, to see the look on your face when you put that spare wheel up to the hub. :D

At least you weren't up in B.F., N.H. when it happened!

Me too. Would love to see how many times I rotated it to get it to fit, like that would help lol. Cars were cruising by at 70 at one minute and completely stopped another. I just wanted to get the frock out of there.
