I feel he posted accurately what he did to all his cars. If I am not mistaken, the Lincoln is just a fast street car. He took pride that he didn't alter it much. You have my permission to post the stock ad I have made up which is based off Doug's own web page. As soon as I go through garage this weekend with some pictures, I will be posting the Cobra and assorted engines. I don't think there will be many goodies for the Mark VIII but there will be a boat load of LCAs and some knuckles!!! I feel he was collecting them to do his magic but ran out of time. Donna

Just looking for a highway cruiser to get up through the hills of Northeastern Maine.
Cruiser?

Living in the hills of WV, I can tell you 4.10s are THE gear to have. Period.

To answer some of your questions...

Obviously 3.27s will get a bit better mileage than 4.10s... maybe 2 mpg? If you want mileage in the high 20's, I doubt you will see that in many stock Mark VIII's, let alone modified ones.

With the tune, gears and converter, you will notice little to no difference with the deletes, so that shouldn't be a factor. It's the 'package' that makes it so.

The converter itself will only be noticeable on hard acceleration in 1st gear with the increased torque multiplication. Driving in the 'hills', the gears and converter combine to almost make for another gear when driven hard through the twisties - like when using a light tap of the brake to unlock the converter when accelerating up a hill out of a turn. ;)

All I'm saying is while the car may not be your definition of a flat open highway cruiser, it has very good street manners and will make someone very, very happy. :)

Plus, doug had a very good trans cooling set-up. He took it on plenty of road trips. Remember that he did not trailer it to the track or car shows. The car was plenty streetable.

As far as the streetability and economical side of things brought up here, I can GUARANTEE his car gets in the 20s on the highway. I can say that without a doubt because Mike Schultz does just that with 500+ rwhp. I can also hit 20s in my bolt-on Mark VIII with 4.30s and with my supercharged Mark8 with almost 400 rwhp. Let the trailer queen mentality die please. We're not in 3-speeds with carburetors.

The right person would pay $10,000 for that car. And that would not be an unreasonable price in my eyes. That car is immaculate. Best of luck with the sale Donna!

My two cents....

So, everyone please spread the word that his cars are for sale, as sad a state that is..... I started in the garage and parts listings in the other thread will be forthcoming. Lots of inventory to take note of.

Donna i know this must be a difficult time for you dealing with this and everything else. There are a lot of people here willing to help. IF I were closer I would be glad to do what little I could do to help. Best of luck.

Thanks all, I just go into the garage and look around and feel like I am selling his soul.

Only sell what you have to.

You leave a part of yourself in a car when you make it yours.

I lost my father in 2006, I miss him everyday.

He left me a part of himself in every car he built, I feel him with me when I drive them. "I know that sounds weird"
I am lucky enough I don't have to sell them.
I feel guilty when they sit.

Some ppl have different opinions about the belongings of a passed relative. My grandma for instance refused to keep my grandfather's car. She NEEDED it gone ASAP! I wanted to keep it but she begged me to get rid of it. She was reminded of him & refused to keep it. She was his survivor so it wsa under her name. I had to respect her wishes & let it go. Me on the other hand, I'd keep it but that's just me. You have to do what feels right. If I had the money I'd be all over this car in a heart beat!

Would anybody be offended if I were to post a link to this thread over on TCCoA. I'd never be able to afford this car, but I'd like to see it go to an enthusiast.

If it comes to that you can put them on eBay with no reserve. I hope the cars and parts do find a good home with someone who can appreciate them.

So to be clear, due to the 3600 stall converter and the tune this currently isn't streetable? It would need something stock like a 1800 torque converter and a modified tune, right?

what? no, the car is completely street-able.
as far as i know, the car never got trailered anywhere.
a 3600 stall is fine for the street, and Doug was a fantastic tuner.
