Gen II - SVT Focus Fuel Pump Installed

Just in case anyone else is planning to do this. The green top 2003+ SVT Focus fuel pump is a direct drop-in in the Gen II basket, with only some minor wiring to attach the pump pigtail to the stock wiring. It seems that they're serious $$ these days (Motorcraft PFS204 $160+), but I've had this one in my garage for a few years now.

1. Stock Basket/Pump
2. Stock Pump/SVT Focus Pump
3. Stock Pump Polarity
4. SVT Focus Pump Installed/Wired

I posted the p/n and price for ripped over on LVC, and it's in my post above. ;)

THIS pump from Steeda might be a deal @ $139.95, if it really is the green top SVT Focus pump as it appears to be in the picture.

I'm just curious, why is the focus pump better? :D
Better than what? The stock pump? It is capable of flowing more fuel.

The Gen 2 Mark VIII's (and most '98+ Ford cars) need a PWM (Pulse Wave Modulation) pump due to the method of voltage control used to regulate the pump. The standard HP Walbro pump is a gerotor pump and doesn't do well in a variable voltage situation.

More info here.

Lets say someone was trying to do this install without the harness that goes to the Focus pump....

Could it be done by connecting the Factory wires in a different manor?

Back back in the day (lol) I had to trim the plastic around the pins and solder the wires right to them. Good shrink tubing to prevent shorting, and you should be fine.

Was wondering it anyone has perform this mod recently?
I purchased the green top focus fuel pump (same part # as Doug mentioned above) about 1.5 months ago. Today was the day to install the pump. Everything was as Doug said (like always). Installed the pump in the bucket and went to install the flex tube and the fuel pump outlet is short by just under a 1/2 inch. Was wondering if I am missing something.

Claude, I usually use the extra rubber sleeve to fix the height issue. The nipple will never be the same height as the OEM pump, but getting it past the sealing o-ring will be sufficient.

Thanks for the reply.! I took both pumps and baskets with me to work this week and did just as you said. Swapped the sender too. Ohm are 16 empty and 165 full, both the same. Ready to install when I get home. Thanks again!
