Is a first gen Mark VIII well protected against theft?

I've been investing a lot (time, money, emotional) into my '96 Mark as all of us here so I'm wondering what are the chances that it could be stolen? Sure anything is possible but is a first gen hard to steal compared to other cars? I know it dosen't have the computer coded key like a second gen...

I did read in the service manual that the ignition key lock cylinder is 'monitored' and the hood has lock out feature.

Are there recommended steps to take to prevent theft?

Does a Mark VIII have a low theft rate?

I appreciate any input.:)

Can't say i recall anyone reporting that their Mark VIII got stolen. You could always instill a kill switch.

....unless one of us gets trigger happy.

My Mom’s KIA is for some reason, stolen more.

That's good to hear.:)

Searching around on tccoa I saw a couple of the members Thunderbirds were stolen... but i'm thinking that maybe Marks have more security features?

I think a kill switch is a good idea!

Personally IMHO, I think most alarms are just noise makers.

If you want real protection, LoJack is the way to go.

A hidden immobilizer switch is the simplest to keep it from being stolen.

Gen1s are almost too easy to steal. Few years back I started one with a key from a totally different car. There is zero theft protection from the factory.
