Kenne Bell 2.1?

Hello everyone! Its been a while, but I have some questions. When I get home in a couple months I am going to supercharge my mark. I am leaning towards the KB 2.1 kit for the 96-98 cobra. I know its not intercooled, but I only plan to run 6-8#'s of boost. I'm leaning towards the KB for the low end torque gains. Car isnt a DD, maybe 1-2 days a week, and raced about twice a year. Basically I want more power and like the look of the KB better than a centrifugal (they will both make a suitable amount of power but I prefer the looks of the KB).

1. Will I have to upgrade the fuel pump and injectors?

2. Will it fit under the stock hood? (I have read it will and it wont)

3. Do I need cobra fuel rails or will my gen 2 rails work?

4. I have looked but can't find any install threads, so any advice on install is greatly appreciated. Not sure what all modifications will need to be made.

I have wanted to do this for years and I am finally in a comfortable financial situation so its go time, plus the boss lady gave me the green light!

Thanks yall for the help.

Most 2.1's I have seen use the stock injectors and the boost-a-pump. Not 100% sure on the other questions.

Best of luck with the upgrade! :)

read through LaserSVTs progress thread for his old white car on LVC.
among other worthwhile things, he goes through the install of the KB on his 98.

I am actually in the middle of removing a kenne bell 2.2 kit from my car. I helped laser with some questions on his as well. If your interested I would sell you my kit as a whole with 42# injectors, the underdrive pulley you will nead, belt, kenne bell 2.2, a custom tb spacer, and bracket that i machined to make the stock cruise work, and a 90mm maf. You would need an in tank pump and a tune to make it run.

you will need to clearance the hood, or shim the k member

Thanks for the replies. I read through Laser's install thread and it doesnt seem too difficult. So I guess I will need the cobra fuel rails. I was told I needed them for the Cobra manifold to fit but it fit fine with the stock rails. Maybe I will maybe I wont.

Should I keep the IMRC's or do a delete? I dont think I would need them with the added torque, but I dont want deleting them to adversely affect the numbers either.

Others have switched to the lightning MAF, is this a requirement or just a preference?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just excited about this and dont have much time to be on the internet over here.

You'll love the torque of a KB on a heavier car.
I have a 2.2 KB on a 3,800 lb. '95 Mustang convertible with 15 psi, no intercooler, and it's a blast to drive on the street.
The torque curve jumps up to 450 wtq right off idle and you feel that in the seat of your pants.

I have a spare Cobra fuel rail that I would be willing to part with if you go in that direction.

How many miles are on it? I'm still a couple months away from being home and probably be a month or 2 after that before I am ready to buy, but I appreciate the offer! I'll keep you in mind when the time comes.

That was the deciding factor for me. I only go to the track 2 maybe 3 times a year, so it would be more fun on the streets with all the added torque. Thanks for the input!
