how about the autozone ones? probably crap huh?
Tough to tell when they don't say what material they are made of. Assuming rubber, I don't see why they can't be at least as good as Ford rubber bushings...unless they goof like MOOG did.

You can buy a rebuild kit from Ford that includes the end caps, bushings and sleeves for $240 PER SIDE! I got the bushing for both sides for $41. I cant believe the mark up on some of this stuff.
I'm not sure who priced that for you, but wow.

When I rebuilt my front end, I went with that kit from Ford, new bushings, sleeves, and washers. It was less than $240.00 for both sides out the door....

I pulled my original Ford bushings out, and put new Ford bushings in.

It rides like a dream, I love it.

I called the Ford dealer yesterday, he told me $157 list per side. I get 20% off. Still pretty high. I need a lower cost alternative. Was that failed bushing from Advance?

I sometimes wonder about Ford prices. I have seen prices on forums, and have been quoted or paid different prices. Could they vary by region?

No, it was a MOOG bushing.

Advance has bushings for cheap...around $20. And they don't look too shabby.

Don't waste your money on the Ford stuff.

I have to disagree.

I've owned this platform (MN-12/FN-10) since 1990 (my first SC), and in those 20 years, I've tried just about everything that is, or was, available for the suspensions on these cars.

I actually removed poly bushings in the front end of my current SC, and returned to using the OEM components and bushings. And I drive that car very hard, and have for 120K miles.

Except for shocks, springs, sway bars, and the sway bar bushings, I would recommend using nothing but OEM Ford parts in the front end.

If I thought that there was something better, I'd either be using it, or I'd make it. ;)

We'll have to agree to disagree.

I've also used various brands of suspension, tranny, engine and brake parts in my 93 and 96, and found that while Ford parts are a good middle-of-the-road brand, they are typically not top-notch. If one does their homework, they can usually find something superior to Ford stuff. For example, Ford (Motorcraft) brake pads and spark plug wires are decent enough, but everyone here knows that EBC/KVR and MSD/Nology make better pads and wires, respectively. It doesn't help that Ford stuff is usually twice the price of the BETTER aftermarket stuff.

However, I will admit that there are a few Ford items that are worth getting...alternators being one of them.

Like I said, just do the homework.

Wow, that was a little off target.

We are talking ONLY about front suspension parts, not all the other things that you've mentioned.

Of course, there are other, better parts, for other areas of these cars. ;)

But, I'll say it again, the OEM Ford/TRW components; UCA's, LCA's, the strut rod bushings (both ends), and the front sway bar end links are superior to any aftermarket part I've tried over the last 20 years.

IMHO :D

YMMV :)

Oh...:)

In regards to just the strut rod bushings, rubber is just too soft and doesn't enable my Mark to carve the corners as well.

But some prefer comfort over performance, and I can understand that.

As for longevity, rubber starts breaking down the moment it comes out of the mold. This is the reason you don't want to use tires, even 'new' ones, that are more than six years old. (The date code is on the inside sidewall - wwyy).

Poly lasts for decades, which is desireable for those folks who don't want to do this fix again in another 5 years/50k miles.

So after reading all this, I think the conclusion I have come away with is that if things are not made out of delrin, I'm sticking with OEM Ford stuff... :p

If you don't care about cornering or are made out of money...yes. ;)

New Ford Bushings are in

Wow! I really enjoy the information that gets swapped out in this forum.
Anyway, I did end up putting the Ford Bushings in. The car drives nice and straight. Turns well. But it is vibrating now at highway speed. (55-65mph) It seems to get better faster than 65. It has new rotors and ceramic pads. It is not a warped rotor vibration. Breaking is very smooth. Some one said Dynamic Tire balancing should be done. Any ideas?
