P0302 and P0720 killing me

Not trying to be funny here.... but did you try turning the probes around and ohm it out the opposite polarity? This is just a guess.... polarity is a funny thing.

the 96 has a VSS in the tailshaft, and an OSS in the case.
a TSS was added in later units. 99+ probably. not relevant here.

Mine is like the one on the left, gear driven, but the code being thrown says output speed sensor circuit. Now I'm even more confused.

If you are willing to go to Detroit I might be able to hook you up with a free transmission.

Your patience is better than mine, I would have just swapped out the transmission.

FINALLY!!

Problem solved. Changing the OSS on your back in the driveway isn't fun by the way. Checked the old one with the meter.....318 ohms, new one was 485 out of the box. Went for a lengthy test drive and the trans performed flawlessly. You have no idea how many threads I've read on this topic, many that just ended without the solution ever being posted. Not this one. Now the car can be enjoyed and I can start on the rest of the "bucket list" for it. Thanks LOD!
