P1747

Josh called me yesterday afternoon and asked that I bring the other set of keys to the shop so they can program PATS. I get there a couple minutes later and they are out road testing The Mark. I talked to Curt, and he said he drove it 3 miles with no CEL, and it behaved in 3rd, OD, and TC lockup. Miller then took it out to test drive it - I had left before he got back. *I hope he went out to beat the piss out of it truthfully, to make sure everything is good for the shootout! If all went well, I should get a call today to pick it up. :)

sounds like it was bad driver in the computer.
will become more common as these cars age.
glad they found and fixed it.

The Mark is ready for pick-up. The P1747 problem was solved by replacing the ECU. New problem - the anti-theft light flashes non-stop even though both keys were re-programmed and they start the car, lock the doors, etc. Does anyone know why this would be? Aric offered to diagnose it, but I declined.

The Mark is home :) I drove it for about 20 minutes yesterday and it seemed fine. Just prior to pulling into the Chevron to top off the tank with fuel, the anti-theft light turned off. After fueling, the light started flashing again once started, and remained flashing for the 5 minute drive home. If I can't figure out how to get that light to turn off, it will get pulled, and I will have Aric load a no-start tune to the xcal, and a hidden kill switch and I will use that for anti-theft protection.

PATS has absolutely nothing to do with the PCM swap, as it's all contained within the SCIL module.
Your flashing anti-theft issues come from incorrect (and clearly pointless) key programming.
I'd have that checked out as PATS is a finicky system and might lock up at the least expected time i.e. race track staging lanes ;)

That said, do you think I should try the instructions in the link ? My owners manual was on the floor, so I suspect they struggled with it for a while. I have no idea why they would even try reprogramming if the light did not flash. Therefore, it must of come on once they swapped the PCM with another one.

See if this helps. Our PATS is type D

Replacing PCM only — A or D type PATS
If only the PCM is being replaced on a PATS control function type A or D vehicle, no
relearn is required (please refer to the Ford PATS chart to determine PATS type). Simply
put the original key in the ignition, turn to ON or RUN and wait for 20 seconds. Then turn
the key off and start vehicle.

I went through all the links, and I am now too skeered to monkey with it myself because my luck I will totally disable it and won't be able to get it started. Being that we are a couple weeks away from the shootout, I am going to leave it alone for now.

I did drive it all around town this weekend, and the only problem I had was the passenger rear brake light failed, and thanks to my handy dandy leatherman and auto zone, I did not have to take it to Aric to get it fixed lol.

It is running really strong right now, so you shootout guys watch out, I'm comin' in hot! :fart
