Story goes that the fella picked it up from the airport and made it a few miles, decided to shut it down after hearing the 'knock'. It was towed in, and the engine had seized. There is still no proper diag as to what exactly happened, but there is a new engine in the truck now. The damaged engine will be sent in to Ford for dissection and a good look-over.

Best guess is that a valve spring or guide failed.

Do the Ford engineers get notified about this, is there a report so they can look into this or is it just a repair and forget?
There is a policy to send a new engine for the dealer to install, and they return the damaged engine to the factory. Yes, a report of engine failures circulates thru the organization.

Look who just stopped by and brought me something :)
I hope he gets to a diesel station soon, he has not refueled since he left home and has zero miles left to go

Well, I did not hear from Bud, so I guess he made it to the gas station before he ran out of fuel. I think he was seeing if he could make the round trip on one tank full, lol

Didn't do too bad.... went 777 miles...the trip to NY & back was fine! Filled the tank at Sam's in Severn, MD on Sunday evening. Monday AM drove to upstate NY. drove around up there, drove back today to Flemington, NJ and finally had to refuel! 777 miles on 17.3 gallons of diesel. I had a gallon left, Steve. Drove at 65-70 MPH most of the way. Hit 50.5 MPG coming down the NYS Thruway but lost that average once I hit the mountain on I-287.
