Post a picture you took today.

Some of you know that I purchased Doug's old lathe and specs recently.

(Excuse the bad pictures. They're from my cell phone and the lighting in my garage is not conducive to good picture-taking!)

One thing I didn't have specs for was the rear spring perches. I talked to a couple people and read pretty much EVERY post that Doug ever made about them.

This is what I came up with... Just finished the second one today.

Finally a part I don't need!!!!! :D Thank you air-ride!

Seriously though, thank you for the work you do designing, building, prototyping and having the ambition to do this.

Lol, thanks man. It's not something I'll ever need either! lol. I just wanted to see if I could figure it out.

Truthfully, Doug did most of the work. I wouldn't have even attempted it if I didn't know he had done it before. 6" diameter material on a lathe with only a 7" swing is pretty hard to do anything with. It takes a LOT of creativity. I'm still not sure exactly sure how he was able to mount the material on the lathe, but I figured out a way that works for me, so that's what really matters, I guess. UHMW was pretty hard to figure out how to machine, and even harder to be able to do it and leave a nice finish. It's a whole lot different than the stainless steel and aluminum that I'm used to! So far, Delrin seems to be pretty easy. It machines similarly to metal, so I'm glad for that.

J I have a set of Doug's lowers for my SC. If you want me to send you one to copy I can do that.

Thanks for keeping this stuff available to the community!

The base of the lower perches should be angled as well.
Looking at pics, I don't think it's really necessary to have the angled base. They'll be using the Prothane isolators as well, so that gives the spring an angled base to sit in.

That would be awesome! I think I pretty much have it figured out, but that would definitely help! I found a post on SCCOA with nearly the entire process written out, so he could prove why they're worth his asking price.

OK I'll dig out my box of goodies from him and get it boxed up. You still at the same address?

The isolators don't provide an angled base, they provide a helical slope for the end of the coil. Most of the lower perches out there (ThomasA's, Tuck's, mine, etc.) were machined with angled bases for a reason. ;)
