Question about star tester.

I recently bought a 96 Mark 8.The car only has 44k miles and has no issues.I plan on keeping this car for a long time.A local resale shop has a star tester for sale but they know nothing about it.I feel in the future I may need one.If I plug it into the obd2 port will that tell me if it functions properly?

I'm glad I have one, used it for diagnosing my air ride last week. Worth $100 easily.

Ok,I bought it.My car being a 96 has obd1 for the air ride, and obd2 for the rest of the car.I hooked it to the air ride and ran a test,it worked. Now I just need to get a list of the sequence.

96 is obd II. The Star II plugs in to another port on the right bank, just behind the air box.

Yes lvn 1996 and newer vehicles are obd11 among all brands.Previous to 1996 Ford vehicles from 1979 to 1995 used obd1.The 96 mark 8 carried over obd 1 for the air ride system only. The Star tester does plug into the plug behind the air box mounted on the strut tower. When hooked up it runs a test cycle of all the systems of the air ride.I need the order of the test cycle.
