The Mark was in its natural habitat.

The Blue Flame 'ran some rounds' but fell to the 10 second Tesla just short of the semi-finals in the Heavy Eliminator bracket class. It was more of a 'working' event for me as I was totally immersed in data logging and working on the tune. As such I didn't get hardly any pics but I'll elaborate more on the racing later in the track times forum.

Jay did show up for a few hours. It was great to meet him for the first time! :)

Mike, congrats on the runner-up for the 11.0 Index class, thanks for the comraderie and the ride to the parts store.

Looking good guys. If I lived closer and was 200# heavier I'd be there. My car was EXTREMELY consistent this October. My first 2 passes I ran 7.199 1/8th to the exact thousandth and short time only fluctuated by one thousandth. This car would be a hoot in the brackets.

Consider this post my formal offer to provide ~200 lbs ballast in the passenger seat of your car, next time you head to the track.. :D

My brother-in-law and I had a lot of fun at the event. It was great to finally meet you guys! I wish I had been able to come in earlier years as well, when there was still a good number of Mark VIII's showing up. Either way, I was glad to finally be able to attend. Maybe next year I'll actually be able to enter a car. That'll be my next goal. lol.

And next year, I might be comfortable enough to try driving a manual at the track... :D

Glad you could make it Jay! I agree, next time would be great if you could enter one of your cars!

Now here's some more details regarding my day at SSHS16:

Woke up at 5am and was on the road by around 6:30am driving The Mark on the 80 mile journey to Atlanta Dragway to arrive by 8am. Gates were already open when Wendy and I arrived, so I immediately went to Tech, and was told my snell 2005 helmet is going to expire, and I now need NHRA approved fire gloves to go with my new for 2017 helmet and fire jacket next year.

The fuel shack was not open yet, so I go to the LOD pits and was happy to see the Blue Flame! :)

After catching up with JP, I went back to the fuel shack to fill up with Sunoco 260 GT 100 octane for $10 a gallon (12 gallons to fill up). When open T&T was called, I went to the lanes to see where I was at time wise, and start pulling timing via xcal programs to get below 12 seconds. I planned to run the 12 second index class only. The Mark ran 11.883, so I was going to pull 2 degrees of timing and make another pass.

*Back track to last Friday - To those who recall in my DTC code thread, I had to replace the ECU recently, and with that, it dawned on me that day to call Aric at Injected to see if the xcal was updated so the tunes in it (-2 degrees & -4 degrees) were also updated for the new ECU. Aric and Curt were in NJ - ATCO track with a group of Hellcats, but Josh from the office called them to verify & confirm I was good to go.

So after my first pass, I plug in the xcal to load the -2 degrees tune, and I see two options - return to stock, and custom tune. :eek-large:

Well, I have not had good luck fender racing in the past - lifting or on the brakes not to break out - *go faster than 12 seconds, so I decided to move to the 11 second index class and be the slow guy in that class.

lol Come to find out that 11 second index field was way less crowded with participants than the 12 index field. My first round, the Mopar broke out running a 10.xx. To my surprise, nobody was willing to spend the $20 and buy back in for round 2. That put me in the finals against JP's & my nemesis - the 10 second Tesla...

So it goes, final round, I am a sitting duck, and was fender raced to the runner up 11 second index position.

It was a great day spending time with my kids from NC, and my second racing family! :) Here's the time slips for the number crunchers. Looking forward to doing it again next year!

I downloaded that photo from their facebook page - 1026 x 684 82.6kb It does not hold together well when enlarged. My 2 iphone photos a couple posts up in the LOD pits enlarge better, but still grainy.

I don't know if he will do that. Last time I asked a photographer that question, he wanted me to pay for the photo, and send him a calendar for his portfolio.

So, I had noticed that the Tesla had a couple of GoPros strapped to the roof, which reminded me of some Tesla videos I had seen on YouTube a while back. I went looking for it today and found that the Tesla racing at SSHS16 was the same guy. He references the SSHS at the end of his last video (5 days ago), so I'm hoping he should have a new video up soon. Should have some good videos The Mark and the Blue Flame in it..
