Sharon please come I would love to see you. Mike can you give me a number for Fairfield or location and I can look it up on the internet. Fairfield is great because I get points. I have 282,000 points already, from my traveling days. I might use some points and stay free.

Edit: Is the Fairfield in Commerce on Frontage Rd? How did you get that rate I'm getting in the $90's.

Norm, I always call the hotel directly. They tend to be much more accommodating than the on-line reservation system, or even the hotline.

At the Mariotts, they'll often throw in breakfast for two, also.. :)

Is the event just Saturday? I planned to return on Sunday. Thanks Mike for the heads up. They usually offer a continental breakfast.

Can I follow someone to the event. I have no idea how to get there. I will be at the Fairfield on Friday so I can be ready to go anytime Saturday.

OK I'm booked at the $76.50 rate but it was like pulling hens teeth to get it. The first quote I received was $99 something.

Glad you got the $76 rate, Norm! That is a great deal. In 2010, I paid $109 per night for a room at the Fairfield on shootout weekend.

I plan to get there Friday afternoon/evening. After check in, and taking Wendy out to dinner, I find JP and tailgate in the hotel parking lot. If there is a group of my Marauder buddies going to Friday night test and tune, I might find my way to Atlanta Dragway to see what's going on there.

Saturday I try to be at the track when it opens at 8am. After the SSHS event, we all decide on a restaurant to go to and eat dinner together around 5-6pm or so. After dinner, there is a big gathering in one of the hotel parking lots with the Chevy boys that is a lot of fun, and goes on until ?

Here's a link to a map from the Fairfield to Atlanta Dragway - not even a mile (.9 miles) away. Your more than welcome to come along with me if you like. http://goo.gl/maps/qMGKm

Thanks Mike I think I should be able to find it or I'm an idiot. I know you are getting there at 8:00 but what time should I come? 8:00 or sometime later. Please remember I'm a rookie.

You can get there any time you like. Spectators have basically the same access to track common areas (parking, pits, restrooms, concessions, grandstands) as the racers, with the exception between spectator/racer being the racer is permitted on the racing surface running the car down the track.

I know that JP & I are usually there when the gates open. Cars do not start running down the track until 9am, that's if the track is dry. If you are sensitive to loud open header exhaust noise, I would suggest bringing ear plugs. The track also sells them if you forget to bring them.

Here is the schedule taken from the SSHS13 web site:

Saturday, November 2nd, 2013

8:00 AM Gates Open

8:00 – 11:00 Registration

9:00 – 12:00 Test and Tune

12:00 All racers must develop dial-in and declare class by 12:00 Noon

Big Dog (Class BD) and Pro Street (Class PS) and 12.00 Index (Class 12) must have one qualifying run before 12:00 Noon

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch Break

1:00 - 4:00 Bracket Racing

4:00 King of the Hill Bracket finals for bracket class Winners

4:15 Pro Street 12.00 Index Finals

4:30 Big Dog Finals (Pro Tree)

*All Class & King Of The Hill Trophy Presentations immediately follow Big Dog Finals.

If the location was convenient and the cash flow was there, I would so be there but of course like always I'm too far away even if I am rolling in the dough. Good luck to Mike on the new auto tune and JP if you are getting the tuning sorted out on the Blue Flame.

JP: SO are you gonna be able to run the Blue Flame?

Mike: I'm particularly excited about your car and hope you have all of the issues ironed out. Are you ready to run full slicks on that beauty? (I think you have graduated away from drag radials.) Getting the boot by the track officials would be kind of a bitersweet thing. I know, that's kind of mean but you know what I'm saying. Your car has been a little over a tenth away from such a predicament. ;)

So, I guess the Fairfield will be the official LOD hotel for SSHS13?
That sounds good. But as you well know with SSHS, every hotel is a potential LOD hang out :)

Thanks Kirk! I am good with the car, and have no immediate plans to make it faster. I like the fact that I drive the car to the track, let some air out of the back tires, and go race.

There is a charity race next weekend at Atlanta dragway that Aric is one of the sponsors of, and I plan to take advantage of this opportunity of him being at the track for him to make any final trans adjustments to the car before SSHS13 in two weeks.

As always, my ultimate goal is have a safe, uneventful, fun day and drive my junk home under it's own power lol. :)

I'd like to think so! We'll have a lot better idea after this weekend. ;)

Good Luck JP!

I haven't figured out a way to make this work. :( The kids go out of town, and I need to get in as many doc appts that week as I can (insurance stuff), but I WILL meet up somewhere someday. Have a great time and run well and consistently. :)

I expect a heads up race of an Ivory Mark VIII against a Black old school Caprice !

Post a photo of the Caprice so I know which one to look for. I went looking for a picture of it on the Impala SS board and found this video.

lol They made a fine choice of selecting the evolution of The Mark to showcase in the video :)
