The Ivory KB car

I've been meaning to start this thread a while back, but extra time was limited due to another Pullied eaton car being put together simultaneously.

The plan is to build a daily driver for the warmer weather months. This car is a 1998 Ivory LSC. It belongs to a gentleman from PA, who some of you have met at Carlisle.

The car is originally from FL, so it's good starting point. Few issues here and there, but overall a very clean example of a 15 year old car.

Getting it into the garage proved difficult from day one. The left rear bag had a nasty crack in it, that would show only at certain vented height.
I've never realized that the rear can go down that low :eek-large: There was literally 1" from the subframe mounts to the ground, and the muffler tips were touching ground as well.
The front shocks were replaced by Doug a while back, but the rear was all original. Two brand new bags were installed from the get go, so that I could move it around without any surprises.
I still need to address the weird compressor setup up in the front as it's both not mounted correctly, and having very low output pressure.

I wanted to get the car stripped down prior to my recent vacation, and get it into the paint shop.
BTW The engine out of this car is destined to give a new life to the well know Gray car :cool-blue:

So out it goes :wink2-green No big surprises.

I hope you corrected the wheels
Nope. I could care less really. There is definitely bigger fish to fry here :roll_over: and I like pissing off the wheel police. Ok, ok, just for you Steve.

I suggested to the owner to get the engine bay painted body color to showcase the new powerplant better.

15 years and 90k miles of grime, and dirt attracted by lousy oil changes accumulated everywhere.

After removing all the wiring harnesses, and associated hardware it was time to scrub the bay clean.

It cleaned up alright, although some brake fluid spillage caused minor shock tower corrosion.
The area will be blasted to bare metal, and treated accordingly.

The owner wanted the terminator bumper cover. After several shipping delays, it finally made it here, so I could test fit it prior to sending it all for paint.

Steel bumper reinforcement has been modified to clear the new fog light openings.

The crash foam absorber needed to be trimmed as well as the center opening is a little taller in the new cover.

Here's the test fit of the cover. IMO it leaves a lot to be desired.
The metal tabs are attached with resin, and there is too much of it, so it interferes with the original bumper attachment brackets.
It's fixable for sure but I was under the impression this was a bolt on deal ? Oh, the joy of aftermarket parts I guess. :err-what?:

Anyways, the cover fits ok I guess, and the car is off to the paint shop.

Yay Joe! :big-grin:

You have rockers for him too? ;)
LOL, I don't do rockers anymore. :p

Anyways, few pictures of the prep work in the engine bay, and associated parts getting painted at the same time.

Ivory Pearlescent is a **** color to try and match, especially when parts of the car were sprayed over the years. 25 spray outs, and a very close combo of the base/mid/clear coat has been chosen.

tri coats are a bitch to match then you have years of fading
Darker ones like bright toreador red are doable, but this ivory is definitely challenging. Different paint here and there over the years makes it even more difficult. There isn't actually much fade on this car.

Some nice progress already... You work fast!
Thanks. Sometimes things fall into place, while other times you gotta wait out on that one "thing". :wink2-green

What size KB?
I believe it's a 2.6L but it's been a while since I looked at it. :embarrassed:

Blah, forget the paint... More about the power!
Looks who's talking. :roll_over:
