Tru Duals for a 93'

Has anyone ever eliminated the center muffler on an early system and just ran the two rear bumper ones ? I was thinking of just running two pipes back to where it splits into the Y, and making it tru duals with just the rear mufflers. Was wondering how loud it might be.

The center muffler is actually a 3rd CAT. Many have removed it. You will want to put an X,H, or X-pipe muffler in its place. There are many threads on exhaust modifications.

+1 - By removing that 3rd cat, putting an x-pipe in place, then running dual 2.5'' piping back to the mufflers it'll sound real good. If you want loud then you could just take the mufflers off yourself and drive around for a few days or a week and see how you like it. If you don't like it all you need to do is get your mufflers welded back on, that way you didn't re-do a whole exhaust and not like it. I got most of this info from reading a million different exhaust theads here on LOD and over at LVC.

Thanks for the input, I'd read about the 3rd cat in some other forums didn't relize that was it. Haven't really explored under the car yet, just recently rescued it from a life of setting with a broken backglass. Had not run in a year and and a half. It's fixed , buffed , interior scrubbed ...many times, but a great 120000 mile car. Later, Pat

deleting the rear mufflers doesn't make the car too loud. I ran mine that way for years. It's actually louder now WITH mufflers... of course I have headers, no cats, an x-pipe and high flow mufflers.:D

that must sound like a beast. i want headers but the $845 price tag isn't for me, atleast now anyways lol. soon i want to have an x-pipe put in, dual 2.5'' piping and maybe dynomax race bullets idk yet. i want it to be loud

If you retain the stock manifolds, I've heard of guys gutting the cats.

And no, headers on these cars sound like crap. ;)

You want loud?? Just unbolt the exhaust right behind the 3rd cat. That'll be loud. Guarantee you'll be under there bolting the exhaust back up in 2 days. At least I was. LOL. That was what I did first, but it was deafening in the car. Then me and my buddy hacked the rear mufflers off right where it goes into the Y. The dynomax bullets aren't much muffler at all. They're actually made for round track cars trying to meet db requirements. So if you want loud, then that'd be loud. Borla's are nice sounding mufflers. Flowmasters are ok... if you don't mind sounding like all the mustangs out there. :fart

I just have to say this. Every time I read the subject of this thread "true duals on a 93" I can't help but picture a Mark with "dually" rear wheels.

And now the rest of you will too. :D

Look here.

I wanted to get Borlas when I had the exhaust redone on the '93 but they were not available at the time so I went with Hooker MaxFlows which compare very close to the Borlas.

I dropped down a notch on the '96 and went with the MagnaFlows.

Ah. I will have to look into this...My Explorer had a Borla catback on the SOHC 4.0L and it sounded aggressive enough, though not exactly loud.

lol i think ill just go with dynomax race bullets then :) i want loud but not straight piped loud lol. do you think it'll be loud with stock manifolds, all 3 cats and factory midpipe, no resonator, 2 to 1 to 2 catback 2.25'' piping and dynomax race bullets ?

Not really... louder than stock, yes but the cats do a pretty good job at muffling.

Ah. yeah i know they quiet down the exhaust which sucks. What if i get the 3rd cat removed, x pipe put in place, true dual 2.5'' piping out to the dynomax race bullets? it'll be a lot louder than stock right?

It'll be the best you could hope for though I would go with SS Magnaflows vs. the DynoMax race bullets. ;)
