Who has removed the rear window trim?

I got a couple cars yesterday and one has perfect trim. I am contemplating removing it and using it on my 94, but I'm concerned about destroying it while removing it. Has anyone done this? I am also hoping to save some to get some molds made as well. I have some contacts in the RV industry that might be able to repop this stuff.

The trim is part of the glass, and cannot be removed separately. There are however a couple approaches to removing the glass and trim together, which seems to be the preferred solution.

If yours has ripples, but is in otherwise good shape, Temple Performance has a kit that uses adhesive backed trim that slides beneath it to smooth it out. Several cars in our club are using it. If yours is weather checked, replacing it is a better solution. I've also seen people just roll it underneath itself. There's a "groove" beneath it that you can tuck it into. That improves the appearance as well.

A search of the forum for "lasagna" will likely yield many alternative solutions. :)

There has been trim for the back glass appear on ebay without the glass.

Not a job I would want to do. You can shop and find the rear OEM window for a lot less hassle.

I have another car with a perfect window and trim, but I was just trying to replace the trim. I don't want to take a chance with the entire window just for the trim. I'll sand it clean and paint it before I switch the window. Thanks guys!

I like that "Naked" look. How do you achieve it. And will it leak. None of the new cars use an external rubber strip/moulding. So why not get rid of the bacon look?

It's pretty easy, just start at one end and use a skinny tiny screwdriver to coax it up and out of the groove. Its going to make a sticky mess if youre out in the sun, but if you do it when trim is cool in a garage its easy. The window is sealed with the poly seal when it is installed. The outside trim is only a beauty cover for looks and fills the 1 1/2" void between trunk lid and lower rear window. I removed all mine because the car was being painted and I wanted professional results, so all the trim on car came off including the windows. But you can remove it easy. Here's what it looks like naked with no rear window trim from behind. Haven't bought new trim for it yet.2013-05-10_16-06-14_98.jpg

Anyone know where the best place to find a 'newer' rear window with good molding is?

I'm having the car painted in a few months and want to replace it at the same time.

I bought it a month ago because the body shop messed up the original. We installed the glass first, cut the back half of the trim off, then epoxied the trim in around the glass. I'll post a pic next week. It looks perfect. :)

Give Tousley Ford a call. They were available recently for around $330. Part number is F7LZ-6342006-AA. Let us know what they tell you, as I'm interested in what they say. Otherwise your local auto glass shop might be able to nab one from their suppliers. I'm sure they're still floating around out there. If they want more than $500, call another shop.

Called Tousley last month and they told me they haven't had them in stock in years (even though the website says differently).

I even tried on another forum I frequent and this is what I got:

Might be a long shot, but your website lists a price so I'm hoping you have it in stock:

Sorry, I do not have that part in stock.

Also, we do not ship glass Fed Ex and UPS will not cover any claims for broken glass, which leaves us to just selling locally.

Sorry, I wish I could help

Thanks

I replaced the rear glass in the Blue Flame last year. I called around and found one available through a local glass company for a little over $300. I called back a couple days later but was told it was gone. :embarrassed:

A few days later he called me back and they had found another one available for about $50 more and I had it installed. :big-grin:

They're out there, just put out some feelers with your local glass guys and I'm sure they will be able to find one.

That's a bummer. Like Driller said, try your local glass shops. There should still be some floating around.

You didn't say what year your car is, but there's a new first gen window on ebay right now for $389.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LINCOLN-MAR...Parts_Accessories&hash=item5888b96001&vxp=mtr

It'll fit a second gen, but it doesn't have the built-in radio antenna, so you'll be screwed for radio reception.
