The wife is now getting a “Check Transmission” message on the display center. I pulled codes and found 1744 – Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit Performance.” There was just this one code. According to the BOOK, this code means “Excessive Slip detected during Full TCC engagement.”

Any suggestions guys?

RE: Check Transmission Message

I would get the tranny flushed at a reputable shop.

RE: Check Transmission Message

Thanks for the feedback. I had the tranny serviced about 4 months ago at the dealer where we have bought all of Continentals. The fluid is still clean. The “tech” that did it had problems with a PLUGGED tranny cooler. Or that's what he was telling the serovce advisor at any rate. It took an extra day, but they "fixed” the plug and exchanged fluid with the hi-tech machine they use. Personally, I like the way we can change tranny fluid inn the Marks better.

The noise it generates is a mild form of 1-2 accumulator vibration that we hear in our un-updated Marks. It's almost like a fine tooth gear being applied to a playing card -- it happens at the 2-3 transition and lasts only about 1/4 of a second (measured with a Butt-O-Meter timer.)

I've treated the tranny with Lucas to see if it helps any. Lucas solved the residue noise HOTLNC had.

RE: Check Transmission Message

Contaminated fluid will cause that TC fault you have. Your fluid is clean, but you may have some macro particles in there...greater than 1/16". That would clog the solenoids once in a while.

RE: Check Transmission Message

Well, in theory, they back flushed it.

Do you think I should back for a redo?

Tough call...what does the tranny shop say about it?

RE: Check Transmission Message

They said it could be, since they do not get to see what is in the fluid they take out.

I'm gonna let thier tranny expert drive the car and give me a heads up as to what he thinks about the noise. So far it hasn;t thrown any more codes since the Lucas treatment.
