Air Suspension Problem

My uncle has a 96 continental that he is giving to me for FREE. It was giving him intermitent starting problems and then finally it just would not start. He left it sitting in his garage for 6 months. He told me if i could get it out of his garage i could have it. Well thanks to this great site i learned that the crank position sensor may be at fault. Walked into his garage and a few minutes later i had the car started and running.

Now for the bad news. I am going to pick it up today and the only trouble in doing so is that the drivers side rear bag did not come up at all. The other three corners looked to have come up just fine. I would assume by reading the way the system works that it should come up even if it does have a leak. The compressor would have to work harder to maintain, but it should come up to ride height. Obviously i will be replacing the bag soon because it does have a leak but i need to get it to my house to do so. It does not seem like a good idea to drive it the way it is even though i would just be limping it to my house. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check for an obvious issue such as a unplugged airline, solenoid, etc... otherwise limping home should be fine at relatively short distances with car at reasonable speeds. You may even want to jack up the front to 'reposition' the fold in the airbag and try to inflate again.

I think JP meant to jack up the REAR to reposition the folds in the bag..... BTW, that worked in my '97 Mark VIII...just jack up the corner that's low, then start the car (actually all you have to do it turn key to the run position and the air ride pump will run). This should be enough to inflate the bad bag...drive it home. It shouldn't leak out again until after you park it. Sometimes this will "fix" it for a day..maybe two or even maybe a week! Long enough for you to get a new bag under it. Consider replacing them all soon tho as they are all the same age and subject to failure.
