thermostat?

The stock cooling fan does not turn on(without the AC running) until the engine coolant temperature is 215 degrees! It turns off at 205 degrees(10 degrees before the t-stat closes). Oh, and at 215 degrees, that is the LOW speed fan coming on at 50% capacity. It takes even more heat before the fan incrementally reaches HIGH speed.

Can the fan be set to turn on a a lower temp?

Yes, with a chip or programmer, the fan can be set to turn on at a lower temp. I believe mine was set to turn on at 180 degrees. I'll have to check that one day. :)

OK I'm going for a 160 stat and will set the fan for 180. I'll let you know the difference in preformance and milage.

suggestion: set your fan turn on temp to 185-190.

That way your not running the cooling fan "all the time".
I have mine set at 190, and the car runs below this temp "going down the road".

when I set mine to run at 180... it ran nearly all the time.
which was probably why my fan "went up in smoke"..

so I bumped my fan temp up to 190.

There are also controls to turn the fan off above 45MPH and back on at 40MPH.

I've proven my points in the past with dyno charts...you should too.

please clarify that these dyno charts are YOURS, and not some charts you dug up some some NHRA racers website?

I just checked thru some 500 of your posts, you mention that your car is IN the 13's.. but I've seen no timeslip, and I did find your post where you provided a link to "someone elses" website, not YOUR Dyno sheets.

I already have a Napa 180 degree thermostat in my 98 and 96 but will be getting the Napa 170 degree for my uncle's 93. Stant 13967 from Napa.

That's because I've never dragged the car, I've merely compared my car to other peoples cars with comparable power, suspension and tranny mods. Here's the short list:

240 rwhp
250 rwtq
Lonnie's stage 3 tranny
Lonnie's prototype 3000 stall converter
Eaton posi - (3.07 gears: this is the wild card)
235 wide "W" speed rated Kumho Ecsta KH11 in the back
Poly bushings in the rear spindles, diff, and tranny

If this doesn't put me in the high 13's, then I'm more than happy to admit that I'm wrong.

I'd like to go racing, but tracks are hard to find in Cali...they keep closing. Irwindale only has 1/8 mile track, Pomona was closed some time ago, and California Speedway is hit-and-miss.

As for my dyno sheets, I've never posted a link to a website when talking about my car. I've still got all three of my dyno sheets that I can scan and post if need be...should I include myself or today's newspaper in the pics?

That being said, how did this discussion turn to me? You never answered my question; do you have dyno sheets to prove your 24 HP gain-due-to-thermostat theory?

I'm a nobody, but if JP or Lonnie or Jeremi would chime in on this subject, we could get an expert opinion and close this discussion.

24 HP from a thermostat change - YES or NO? Any takers?

?

Consider it closed, your 13 second car is "speculating".. nothing more nothing less...

I have way more mods than my friends 93 mark 8, he runs 13.80's.. mine has YET to break into the 13's..

but I DAMNED sure am NOT claiming his numbers, even though I have about 1100.00 more in mods than he does.

until MY car makes a 13 second pass it is STILL A 14 second car, that's pretty simple if you ask me...

how YOU wound up with a 13 second car and you've never even "made a pass".. is BEYOND ME..

and once again.. purely SPECULATION, yet you are asking ME to post "FACTS"?
GIMME A BREAK.....I run my OWN numbers and I post my OWN numbers, not someone elses.....

how did this discussion get turned towards you?
you constantly troll my posts, disagreeing at "every turn".

I'm "done replying to your arguments" find someone else to "TROLL".
M'kay?

On a sidenote, I found out Motorcraft has come out with a standard waterpump to replace all old 4.6 water pumps and is the latest design. So it's the same waterpump for a 93 Mark VIII to a 99 Cobra...

OK guys, let's keep this a "friendly' fight. Agreed?

You're right, I'm done. It doesn't look like any of the experts are contributing here, so we're just going in circles.

I didn't read the response, but judging by your post, he wasn't nice.

I don't call myself an expert but I did post my experience and understanding of the 160 T-stat. I never knew Tommy had the 160, but I think that in itself debunks the added engine wear myth as well.

The mods I have chosen, including the 160 T-stat, were all well thought through even though I readily admit they may not be for everyone. Some still remain unproven, not all are widely accepted but I have them just the same because I believe in the math and physics involved. I read the pros and cons, analyze the evidence at large, weigh the potential benefits against the cost and possible downsides, then make my own decision. My car is the result of my decisions. ;)

Oreilly's Auto Parts - cobra style water pump
Part Number CP4119
Cost 75.41

It's a good pump, I have one on my car and it has the new impeller design
Just FYI

Agree'd.. definatley.

Imagin how fast my car would be if I used "the right parts".

So far I've got the
wrong gears - 373s
wrong torque converter - stock
wrong air meter - C&L
wrong tires 245-50's
wrong thermostat - 160

it's widely known that the 373's are not the optimum gear for the marks

also widely known that the C&L isn't optimum as a genuine ford meter IS!

245 50 16s are wrong sized and create speedometer error

and that pesky thermostat that kept me from getting to 500,000 miles!!
I'm sure I can find some other "wrong parts" on my car.

Tommy "doin it all wrong, but havin the most fun" Douglas!!

*disclaimer*
Dont try my mods at home, I'm not a trained professional expert, I'm a lowely drag racer with no brains, no money and.. no desire to argue.
(tounge in cheek smile)

Agree'd

no fighting from me sir..I'm a drag racer not a message board warrior.

I would love to settle this at the dragstrip.

I'll put my 14 second car against his 13 second car, no problem...
best 2 out of 3, 3 out of 5?

Heads up race, Pro Tree(.400)... I aint skurred.

now to find THE track that is halfway between california and texas.

Maybe somewhere in new mexico?

"Have Mark, will travel"

P.S. the reason I say pro tree is really to "make it fair" for him because he's never dragged the car.

on a .500 sportsman tree, he wouldn't have a CHANCE as I would "nail him to the tree like a guy in a mel gibson movie".

Since I have NO experience on a PRO.400 tree it would really "level the playing field" as "neither of us" is going to "cut a good light" on a pro tree.
