Are you guys using the Hypertech 160 degree thermostat?
That being said, about how many tenths did your shave from your 1/4 mile by going to a 160 tstat?
The stock cooling fan does not turn on(without the AC running) until the engine coolant temperature is 215 degrees! It turns off at 205 degrees(10 degrees before the t-stat closes). Oh, and at 215 degrees, that is the LOW speed fan coming on at 50% capacity. It takes even more heat before the fan incrementally reaches HIGH speed.
Can the fan be set to turn on a a lower temp?
I've proven my points in the past with dyno charts...you should too.
please clarify that these dyno charts are YOURS, and not some charts you dug up some some NHRA racers website?
I just checked thru some 500 of your posts, you mention that your car is IN the 13's.. but I've seen no timeslip, and I did find your post where you provided a link to "someone elses" website, not YOUR Dyno sheets.
I'm a nobody, but if JP or Lonnie or Jeremi would chime in on this subject, we could get an expert opinion and close this discussion.
?
OK guys, let's keep this a "friendly' fight. Agreed?
I'd like to go racing, but tracks are hard to find in Cali
On a sidenote, I found out Motorcraft has come out with a standard waterpump to replace all old 4.6 water pumps and is the latest design. So it's the same waterpump for a 93 Mark VIII to a 99 Cobra...
I don't call myself an expert but I did post my experience and understanding of the 160 T-stat. I never knew Tommy had the 160, but I think that in itself debunks the added engine wear myth as well.
The mods I have chosen, including the 160 T-stat, were all well thought through even though I readily admit they may not be for everyone. Some still remain unproven, not all are widely accepted but I have them just the same because I believe in the math and physics involved. I read the pros and cons, analyze the evidence at large, weigh the potential benefits against the cost and possible downsides, then make my own decision. My car is the result of my decisions.
