Quickest Lincolns of Distinction - DISCUSSION

For your MPH to go up, I suggest you try manually shifting your car and see if that helps, the line pressure isn't as aggressive in drive. As far as the wheel spin /mph issue is concerned, in my experience typically the better the 60 foot time the better the MPH. Have you seen higher MPH when your 60 foots were in the 2.0-2.2 range?

I was manually shifting it, lol! Yeah, but only by a couple of MPH...I think I was running 14.2's at 97 mph, and 14.6's at 98mph. Both of those were with tons of wheel spin.

In my mind I picture a car starting at low rpms(me launching HARD with no wheel spin) and after I get going I get to the finish fast, vs. my car before the gears/Falkins I'd get a bit of wheel spin and have a higher mph because I'm keepn the rpms up more from the wheelspin. Not as good of traction, but waaaay better acceleration because its not like starting from idle. I get a good launch with the t/c and tires, but my acceleration is down because of a lower rpm start. Make sense?

Heres my theory....no burn out....hard launch WITH wheelspin keeping the rpms/momentum up which keeps my car in the power band making it accelerate better/faster, which gives me a better MPH.

I also ran into this problem with my stang....I was running 13.5's with just minor bolt ons, gears and my brand new Cobra R's, so I didn't burn out for very long. After I got it back from being stolen I installed a GT40 intake, bigger t-body/EGR/MAF, bigger injectors, chip, and went to the track with crappy tires on it so I just burned out forever to heat them up.

During the 13.5 runs I would wheel spin off the line but I'd feather the throttle but hold the rpms up until I hit redline.

After I put the car back together and would do a huge burnout, I would launch SUPER hard(hit my helmet on the roll cage, lol) and run 13.98's. MORE upgrades, MORE traction...slower car.

The night I ran 13.5's I got first place so I was really consistant and dialed in 13.49 because I was running 13.528+. So....what I'm getting at is 13.5's with wheelspin and less mods.....13.9+ with MORE mods and NO wheelspin.

More momentum, better mph.

Tiffany Mod

Tripany(in Stone17's Car)/Tiffany Spain/94 Mark VIII/14.0379 @ 97.61

I let Tiffany run my car down the track and she rock!

Here are Tiffany runs

60'--2.0113
330--5.8254
1/8--8.9823
1000-11.7228
1/4--14.0379
MPH--97.61

60'--2.0576
330--5.9121
1/8--9.0935
1000-11.8555
1/4--14.19
MPH--96.82

Bought time your car did what it should be doing!

judging by the incrementals on that run, there is MORE ET to be had.

the 2.01 60' IS the beginnings of a 13 second pass
5.80 330' time is still on course for a 13 second pass
8.98@1/8th is somewhere around 13.7-13.8

even the 1000 ft number is on a 13 second run, but somewhere in that last 320 feet Glenns car is still "down on power".

my guess is battery voltage on the big end, "crappy battery terminal" or that other "RED COIL" he's still dragging around on the car IMHO.

Big Blue still has some more power to gather up on the big end.. lower ET's should be coming soon.. hang in there Glenn!

JP: can you add Tiff to the list again? *LMAO*

She has become a "standard" so to speak..
very helpful in removing a very inconsistant variable from the equation.

This is the third time she has taken someones car and drove it faster than the owner could.

She did it to my car, she did it to Mike/Nightsky's car and last night.. once again "The TIFFANY MOD" drops .44 of a second of Glenns car.
(insert DRIVER MOD PLEASE)
HAHA

Let's get Nightsky's car on the list, he deserves it. One of the first NA 13 sec Mark VIII's that I read about on the forums.

I AGREE, I called him last night from the track..he was out with his lovely wife at a crawfish festival in "old town spring".

He said he might be coming to the track soon.

Jesse, I was thinking about what you said about doing a burnout gives you less MPH... I remember on the 101mph run I didn't do a burnout (2.1 60 foot time), when I did burnouts I got 2.0 60 foot time but trapped 99-100mph. You have a lot of gauges on your car, what does the burnout do to your tranny, and oil temp?

"Wanna Race?" "Hell ya...let me switch my tune real quick" *chinese fire drill and Tiff jumps in* "WTF kinda tune is that...you're letting a girl drive?" *Skkkkkeeeeerrrrrrt* Lol! Good Job Tiff :)

Serge....see, I'm on to something, lol. I DO have a lot of guages...I never see the trans temp climb when I'm at the track. I only have eng oil press, no temp.

Here is the timeslip.

Duly noted...

I just noticed Tripany has not added her car to the list? What's up with that???

Ahhhh, waiting for the 13 second slip?!

Well the 3.00 plus per gallon price for fuel is making it tough for us to fill up BOTH cars, then buy two tech cards.. etc.

The last couple of times out, we just took my car.

Tiff's best pass so far with her car is 14.64 @ 98 with no mods other than a chip.
Based on some of her 1/8th mile runs, her car HAS a 14.4 in it..

I just read JP's question to her.. and she said "I CANT LOG IN".
*shruggs*

she did the password retreival thing and never got the message, she tried to register and it said her username was taken and her email address had already been used.
She gave up and went back to work.

Glen I would say that the 14.0 should have been in the 13's and your car is still a little soft on the top end. I can tell because of how much MPH you gain between the 1/8th mile and the 1/4 mile. 19.8mph, not too bad but a healthy running modified Mark VIII should gain 20-21mph between the 1/8th and the 1/4 mile and that missing power on the top end cost your car the 13 second timeslip. I would look into any possible ignition or fuel issues, or maybe even your tune.

>I would look into any possible ignition or fuel issues, or maybe even your tune.

I still have one old MSD coil on my car and my spark plugs are gap to .045.
Next week going to get a new coil and change the gap to stock setting.

Open that gap up to .055, the more gap you can run without misfiring the better your engine will run. I am running a .058 gap but I have the GMS COP kit for higher spark output.

I was going to open up the gap about that much but since I rev to 7000 in my 98 i'm afraid of spark blow out issues with that much rpm.
