Conical Filter installed....

Wow... I just installed a conical filter from an 01 Cobra, That is from the MAF down, Cobra - intake tube is from a Gen 1. It has a conical shield that helps draw in cool air from the bottom and fender.

The car seems the same, but sounds AWESOME! I though taking the air silencer off was nice, but this add a whole new level of sound when under load.

I'll get pics asap. I used a coupler from Menards. Its was $10 and only two inches in length. It looks factory!

Here ya go..... I had to tape one end of it with electrical tape. While it sealed ok, the bond did not make me feel secure that it would hold the weight of the cone. I will get some strong adhesive to bond the intake tube and adapter together preeminently. I also have to cut the tabs and such off the conical housing. This was more or less a test fit. I still cant believe how aggressive it sounds now :)

Although its not visible in the pics, the conical housing has a huge opening, like the one on the side, that opens up right smack into the former intake opening. Its like it was meant to be.

Looks good dude :) I never heard.....how is that Aviator motor?

BTW.....use some JB Weld on your "coupler" and tighten the hose clamp down while its wet.

JB weld... will do. The Aviator motor is going good! The car sure is the fastest thing I even drove - well, maybe not as fast as the Porsche Carrera. Its just fun being able to chirp into third :) The chip I got helped out a lot with performance and economy. Once I get the engine bay painted and cleaned up I will make a site with a write up. One of the may write-ups/how-to things I have to do....

Looks like the same setup Dave used on his black 97. I think his airbox was from a GT though ... probably the same thing.

It worked great for him, so I am sure you will be happy as well.

Why did you keep the avi crossover tube ? It's hideous IMO.

Is the a/c deleted in this car ?

I like how your using the gen 2 intake tube with your cobra intake manifold, a lot less restrictive than the stock cobra intake tube huh?

I used the Aviator crossover tube because the Aviator cooling system is A LOT more efficient, so I wanted to keep it as stock as possible.

Also for the intake tube, I had to use a Gen II tube. The Cobra one has curves too extreme to fit in there. It worked, but not well and once I get the AC lines in, I would have had no room.

How is it a lot more efficient without even a single drain in the back of the passenger's head ? Not even mentioning the driver's head ? You're cooking the cylinders closest to the firewall. It's a very common problem with these setups lacking the crack pipes in the back of the heads.

Ok, efficient is the wrong word. Practical may be a better choice. By efficient I was thinking along the lines of putting it all together....

It was more practical because if I swapped to the old one I would have had to replace the crossover tube, oil filter adapter, t-sat housing, and power steering pump.

So is that engine a ton more torquey than the M8 engine, or was it not as big of a difference than you'd hoped?

Without a dyno run, I cant say for sure. But it sure FEELS a lot more torque and a good deal faster. I can chirp into third without thinking about it and I have to be careful driving in wet conditions, I loose traction a lot and traction control is useless. So I am very happy, it was worth it - but without numbers, its all subjective. At the Mark meet I am going to this July I will get beck into a stock Mark and see how it feels and let others drive mine. That way I will get a more neutral idea.

Thats what I heard... but since I am not using that SWEEEEEET Aviator intake, I may be reduced. The 01 intake is nice, but there are no IMRCs like the stock Aviator and Mark.

I sold the intake to a power train house. They had a decked out 4.6L and had the intake I sold them plated or painted silver. It was nice....

Ya, but its worse none the less I figured :) If I wanted to keep the Aviator intake, I would have had to have a HUGE cowl hood and a booster seat!

I wouldn't worry too much. Peak numbers wouldn't be higher with the avi manifold no matter what.
The TQ cruve might be broader, but that's about it. Now, if you're talking about coolness factor, then yeah it would be fun.
Especially with a custom lid ....

I went to see this masterpiece Friday at local Karkraft. If you ever considers front mount turbo setup, this should be the intake of choice. Too bad it's still in the R&D stage.

BTW, that motor you have looks to be an 03 run, not 04. Do you have the build date of the block ?
