My custom ice box

I was bored today so I decided to try to make some kind of ice box. I think it came out pretty good, I just need to paint it, add some rubber and do a couple other things to get it done. What do you guys think? I'll post the final pics when I'm done.

That is great. This would really help reduce those air intake temperatures when idling in traffic etc. My car would run significantly warmer when I used to have a conical filter than didn't draw cold air (in traffic conditions).

I was playing with my excal2 looking to see if IAT did anything to the fuel pulse window and noticed IAT was mid 90 at idle and drops to ambiant air temp within a few seconds...I guess I got a baseline to measure against when I put a cold air kit on.

You need to keep exterior temperatures in mind as well. If the exterior temperature is 40F and IAT shows 90F, that is not good. But if it is 85 and IAT shows 90F....

All done!

All done!

Here ya go guys! It bolts up to the 2 out of the 3 stock location for the air box bolts. I left the bottom one out because its a little PITA.

MAF and 4" adaptor

Yes, I gutted the MAF. I think I need a chip for that to work but I figure its less restrictive like this and it looks cooler

I cut the excess rubber and used it for the end of the MAF to create a snug fit. The filter is a K&N/SummitRacing. It is a Summit product(SMM 0870) made by K&N(KN 0870), go figure. It was about $10 cheaper than the "K&N filter," but it'e exactly the same thing! It even has the K&N logo on the end of the filter and I got a K&N sticker!

I found this rubber at the junk yard. Don't ever reuse a rubber! And always keep in mind, No glove, no love!

This is the excess rubber from the filter added to the MAF

Follows the curves of the hood. All I need to do is add some rubber where the shields meet and im set

That's pretty sweet.

I need to make a custom one for my CAI setup. I want a "really cold air" intake(RCAI). LOL

Since my filter is in the fender, I want to build a box shield around the elbow and MAF flange with a lid and fill the box with dry ice.

Probably room for a cold beverage too. :D

Those look like polished stock COP covers. I tried doing it to mine but ended up just buying racing ones from Ford.

Looks really good! :D Don't forget to plug in the MAF, hehe. Does the car still run good with the MAF adapter "modified"?

I polished the stock COP covers and then added a high temp clear coat.

I didn't notice a change with the modified MAF but it has to flow better than the stock one.

I noticed that the engine has a better growl to it with the box vs just the cone filter.
