Do I have to shut off traction control to unleash power?

Hi, folks,

I am new to the forum, I just test-drived a 2001 continental with only 65000 miles. The car runs smoothly and looks like being well taken care of. However, I just can't feel the power of the V8 engine with 260 HP. Even I floored the gas, I can barely rev the engine over 4k rpm. The throttle response is worse than my 98 duratec taurus. Is there something wrong with the car or the PCM literally limits the power output. Should I turn off the traction control to test the throttle response.

Second problem is the brake pedal which is too high to reach. Is the pedal adjustable?

The last concern is the fuel used by previous owner is 87 instead of 91, will this do any damage to the engine?

Thanks, I appreciate your sharing your knowedge and experience with me.

Probably needs some maintenance done. Plugs, fuel filter, air filter, transmission service.

Good idea to run some sea-foam through the PCV valve to clean out the carbon deposits.

Turn the traction off so that the engine power isn’t limited when wheel spin is detected. Besides that the continental isn’t necessarily a performance car but it should be a bit faster than the 24V Taurus. As a quick FYI the 01 has 275hp.

Did you try to rev it in Park/Neutral or were you driving? If it wasn't in gear, than it may have a rev limiter.

What it sounds like is that the traction control retarded the timing because your front tires lost traction....next time don't just up and floor it....ease into the throttle.

"What it sounds like is that the traction control retarded the timing because your front tires lost traction...."

In your own words...WTH !

Starting the 11th of next month you're all getting a free pass. I'm taking wife and 2 grandsons (14 and 17) on a USA tour in truck and trailer. Will be gone about 6 weeks...Then you'll have to deal will all the other mods!! I won't be here for you to kick around!! LOL

Lol! No ones kicking you around :D Sounds like a super fun trip! 6 weeks.....doesn't sound like you're going to make it to my area.

Wanna bet? Going to San Diego and up to Oregon, Washington, BC rhen back into the states and east again. We all have season passes to all the 6 Flags parks! Gonna roller coaster to west coast and back!!

Really! You'll probably pass right through Sacramento on your way to Oregon! You're going to 6 Flags Marine world? Than from there up Interstate 5?

LMAO! NO....

6 Flags bought it out a while ago and put in a few roller coasters. Its a 6 Flag park...so I figured it'd be included. Which way are you traveling up to Oregon?
