Transmission Shop in Pittsburgh for 94 Mark VIII

The transmission in my Mark VIII is starting to go. Sometimes it acts as if it is in neutral in the revs will shoot up to about 2000 RPM and it will launch hard. I notice that this happens more so when it is cold or if it has been sitting for a while. It probably doesn't help that there are so many hills in Pittsburgh. This is an intermittent problem and the rest of the shifts are fine. It seems that the previous owner neglected the trans as the fluid is black with a burnt smell to it. Does anyone know of a reliable trans shop in Pittsburgh and approximately how much it would cost to fix? Thanks very much.

If you have any mechanical ability you could do the primary stuff yourself before you take it to a tranny shop that will probably tell you its toast, and wants a meal ticket right out of the gate. You could drain your fluid (including TC), replace the 1-2 , & 2-3 accumulators, and install a new filter along with Mercon V. Cost for this easy project would be about $130 in parts.

Here is a link to read about this;

It's been a while back, but I had a recommendation for Cottman Transmission @ 412-829-5900.

If you are interested in performance... see one of our sponsoring vendors at Blue Oval Chips.
