Do not drive the car much, Today when driving I was on the freeway and decided to use the cruise control It would not work, When i arrived at destination i checked fuses and 31 steering column/Ignition/lighting module park lamps was blown. Then 32 brake on/off switch, brake pressure switch blew keeping me from shifting out of park! Was checking all of the lights for blown bulb grounding out when i opened my trunk it smelled of electrical fire! further investigation the smell is coming from the ballast and the center light does not work at all any more. Light had a mind of it's own would work if I turned the lights on and off now nothing at all no brake or running light from the center light at all after replacing all of the fuses the rest of the lights work and cruise control.
would a bad ballast be guilty of this mishap.

Thank you
Ben Garrett Tucson,AZ

If you smell something burning in your trunk then ballast has died, to confirm that just remove the deck lid lining near the neon Center light and disconnect the ballast, then replace the fuses and see if they blow again. If blown afterwards then there's a short somewhere in the LMC, if not blown then it's the ballast

I agree that all signs point to the Neon ballast. Aftermarket options are available, otherwise, just keep rolling sans-neon until you find the time, and part..

I also just noticed that we're replying to a post from 2013.. :D Hope your car is still on the road, Ben!

You know when people Google search stuff sometimes they are led to these forums and sometimes those same questions asked do get left unanswered so if we keep putting information into these forums it'll help in the world of searching when it comes down to Google Yahoo and Microsoft Bing
