Have a 93 that had intermittent issues that finally led to it dying yesterday. Before yesterday, the car would light up all lights (including Traction Control off) and not start, turn the key back, give it a few minutes and it would act normally. Now, it won't start at all, with a fresh battery. In fact, when I first started trying to diagnose the issue, when I turned the key, a puff of smoke and smell of sulphur would come off the positive side of the battery.

With everything plugged in, the keyless entry box at the rear would tick repeatedly and if I put the hazards on, the door keypad would flash with the flashers.
So, I changed out the MF switch. No change.
Unplugged the keyless entry in the trunk, that at least got rid of the constantly glowing keypad and the buzzing in the trunk. Still no start.
Unplugged the autolight controller, no change. Plugged it back in.
Changed out the ignition switch and key cylinder, now there's a buzzing coming from the passenger side behind the glove boxes.
Unplugged the blue suspension controller, car won't start, still a big battery drain and the buzzing resumes.
Unplugged the blower motor controller, still buzzing now.
The only one left is the engine controller at the back, but as I don't have hands the size of a child's, I came here to ask opinions.

The other weird things:
With it all plugged in save the trunk, when I put the cylinder in accessory position, the stereo deck initially lights up. When I try to start and put it back to accessory, the stereo deck keeps flickering and resetting.

I'd rather another one didn't go to the junkyard, but I'm running short of ideas. I need the car to get to work, though!

Thanks guys,
Chris

*edit*
As long as I don't try to start it, the wiper switch now acts normally. In the accessory position, the stereo does not. I've since left it unplugged as I found a rat's nest of a PO's wiring a deck harness. All wires are separated though.

I've looked closely at the wiring under the dash and see nothing burnt or bared, nothing on the passenger side rail going into the engine, nothing around the high current fuse box. Pulling out the interior fuses did nothing, except the one for the Instrument cluster, which prevented me from starting.
