Hey guys, i need some help trying to find a tire that will not rub on my inner-fenderwell. i have had 245/40/20zr g force ta kdw, but the inner tire rubs the plastic lining only when i turn the tire. Will a 255/35/20 be okay for clearence? I have 1/4 inch spacer in the front any ideas?? Thanks..

RE: 20 INCH tire size?

Hey Joe,

I just put Sumitomo 245/35R20 on my car and actually was supposed to get Kumho 255/35R20 but the store said that they were too wide and Kumho didn't make a 245/35R20. I was s little pissed that he did that without asking but it seems as thogh the 2 tires are the same quality.

The first number is the width of the tire so the higher you go, the wider it gets. So if 245's rub, then I would think that 255's will rub more.

Good Luck,

Mike

This is absolutely correct. The first number is the width in mm. Here is the calculation if your interested 245mm divided by 25.4=9.65 inches wide, sock size is 225 or 8.86" The diameter of your wheels is 26.75 and stock is 26.63 aprox(dep on wear and different tire specks) so the tires should fit the problem is your wheel width or offset. suggest a larger spacer or modify your inner fender well. Depending on your wheel width, a skinnier tire probably wont work on your rim very well.
Hope this helps. If not let me know. Mark M

RE: 20 INCH tire size?

The tire size is fine, the only problem that i came to realize when i was raising it and lowering it quite often. That the alignment was messed up and i ate the inner side of the tire. Now im' just keepin the car raisied at stock height until i can find somebody that can align my car lowered with my 20's.

RE: 20 INCH tire size?

Mark,

It sounds like you know a little about tire & wheel size. I just had a set of Arelli Assassyns installed on my 94 Mark VIII with Sumitomo HTR Z II 245/35/R20 tires.

I actually ordered Kumho ECSTA Supra 255/35/R20 but the store said they made the decision to install the Sumitomo's because the 255/35/R20 were too big for my car and Kumho didn't make the ECSTA Supra in a 245/35/R20. Does this sound correct?

Hey Mike,
Both tires would fit with the right offset, but the 245/35 is closer to the stock diameter. They are 26.75" stock is 26.63" the 255's would have been 27.03" and would have thrown your spedo off slightly. If you run a high offset 40mm or greater with a wide rim there is a greater chance of rubbing up front. The back has way more room since they don't turn obviosly. hope this helps.
Mark.

RE: 20 INCH tire size?

Mark,

Thanks for the info. Are you familiar with the Sumitomo HTRZ II as compared to the Kumho ECSTA Supra?

Thanks again,

RE: 20 INCH tire size?

Those Arrelli's look great, you need to just pop off the rims for about an hour and sensor lower that bad MoFo about an inch or so. ;)
