2nd Gen Mirror LEDs

My driver's side mirror LEDs have gone out.
Puddle lamp still works and my passenger mirror LED/Puddle lamp works as well, just the driver side LED is out.
Anyone else go through this and figure it out? I'm planning on inspecting it this weekend and was looking for pointers. Hoping its a loose connection. :(

One of mine got water or condensation in it which probably shorted the LEDs out. When it was dry it worked fine...

Just a thought, good luck!

I took the mirror apart and the connections were good and there is voltage going to it. I'm sure the LEDs have gone bad. Didn't really bother me all that much but now it does. I have an ad in the classifieds. :(

Mine stopped working a year ago but I fixed it and it has worked fine since. When you have it open look at the circuit board(you have to cut it open at the seam with a Dremel cutting wheeel). Follow the circuit and one of the first things in it is what appears to be a black diode. On mine that is where the circuit was open. I just jumped it out and it worked. I'm not sure why a diode was in a dc circuit ( maybe to prevent reverse polarity damage) but I have had no adverse effects. Then just glue it back together. I enjoyed working on it because I could take my time with it on the work bench and still drive the car. Good luck.

It is inside the puddle lamp/turn signal assembly. You can pop it out of the bottom of the mirror by inserting a flat blade screwdriver between the bottom of the mirror glass and the housing and disengaging a tab. Adjust the mirror up and all the way to one side to access the release tab.

I figured that I'd have to cut it open to further diagnose it but I don't have a dremel to handle that. I thought I might try to find another LED if someone has a cracked mirror but if that doesn't come through I may try to repair it. Sometimes I'm amazed at the level of knowledge on here, down to a small component like this, just makes this a great community. Thanks Neil.
BTW, what kind of glue did you use to put it back together?

Weird, on mine, it's every other LED that's out on the driver's side. I'm glad someone posted about this anyway.

That's because your car likes to taunt you... :p

It's probably because water has corroded the exposed metal at the base of the LEDs...

At least that's what mine looked like.

mine is also behaving similarly to Mark's. although they tend to come and go. often, they all work. sometimes just a couple are out, sometimes it is *nearly* every other.

I always assumed it was bad soldering on the individual LEDs, but thought I had to disassemble the entire mirror to get at it. now that I know that the module can simply be popped out of the bottom, I may investigate a bit more closely.
