If you look at the string of islands that make up SE Asia...it is obvious that this isnt the first time it has happened, nor will it be the last.
The difference here is, global communication. Centuries ago, the rest of the world didnt know about such catastrophe. There was no way to know how much devastation, and loss of life there was, other than some explorers stumbling upon remains of small villiges.
This is a tragedy. But honestly, if you didnt know about it, would it pain you so?
I am sure at one point in global history, Sri Lanka was part of India...but the big wet dragon washed away villages, and people, leaving a part of the land separated by water...now an island nation, once it was just a very large mountain.
Those satellite images, although many were taken 12 months apart, are simply awesome.
Someone pissed Mother nature off real bad....and I think its all the war in the world. She's still angry folks...buckle-up.
