So I was driving today and noticed the temp gauge was running hot. It almost got to the red, I pulled over and checked to see if the fan was coming on. It was but it ran so hot coolant came out the overflow bottle. I looked to see if coolant was leaking from the water pump, it wasn't. The thermosat was replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Once I got back on the freeway it was running really cool. In town it goes way up though? Any ideas?

At highway speeds your fan motor isn't even on. Are you certain you have a filled coolant system? That means doing more than looking at the overflow boottle. If you are low you need to add thr the cross over tube access plug while engine is running.

You may have a fan that is malfunctioning as well.

The fan is working fine. I think it was just an air pocket in the cooling system, got it taken care of and it's running fine now. Maybe the coolant cap is not holding pressure too, I might have to change that soon.

get it up to temp and take the cap off and let the air go out. you have a air pocket. I did too and once the "bubbling" stopped, and put the cap back on, I didnt have a problem after that.
Common with the mark rides.

On a "sealed" system, air pockets don't just magically appear. If you have not done any repairs recently, I'd suggest atleast replacing the coolant overflow cap (radiator cap) as it may not be able to hold pressure.

You said you "got it taken care of"....what does that mean?
