A/C temp

It has been getting pretty warm here lately and I have been using the A/C more. It doesnt seem like it is getting as cold as it should. I thought that it might be low so I went and bought a set of guages. They say that the system is filled to the proper amount. The compressor is running constant. Not sure if that is right or not. I also noticed that under WOT the A/C will get warm. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

P.S.
I check the system with th car running and the and the A/C on Max Cool

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, it is normal for the AC compressor to 'kick out' under WOT.

RE: A/C temp

Under WOT or in most cases even less then that, the compressor clutch disengages to protect the compressor and give you more power. Every car I ever owned was like that.

Did your clean you condenser coils as well?

RE: A/C temp

If I use a digital thermometer to check the temp comming out of the vents about what range should it be?

RE: A/C temp

it's not a set temperature, it's a set temperature drop. And efficiency of R134a falls off at extremely high temperatures. This is a problem when designing A/C systems for military trucks in Iraq, but probably not the problem here.

Go to autozone, buy the kit that has the low side pressure gauge, turn on the a/c and check the pressure. if it's low, add a little refrigerant. I did that last year, i think i may have to do it again now.

If you have air in the system, the gauges are useless.
