Hey guys,

My eclipse was stolen, so I am looking at these two Alpines. I am leaning toward the 9815 because it is black and has more of the features I want. Does anyone know what the black out display feature does? Also, the 9815 has v-drive, a high power amp, which they say you need to hook up a 10 ga. power wire to. But if you are using external amps, is this necessary? Just wonderin.

the blackout feature is when u hold the display button down for 2 secs, all the graphics shut off but the player continues. the book says it reduces strain on the electrical system. if youre using external amps then the internal amp is useless, but it can be shut off. id opt for the 9815 myself. i believe its basically an updated version of the 7995.

Just went on an auction site and bought the 9815.

I like the idea of the blackout display, not so much for the strain on electrical system, but I sometimes want all unnecessary light to disappear on my dashboard when I am on a long night drive. As far as the amp goes, I was just trying to figure out if you still need the heavy power wire if you are not intending to use the internal amp.

Thanks

Craig

I was wondering the same thing, I picked up a 9813 and have yet to install it.
