An old time car guy!

I'd like to introduce you all to a friend of mine. Julius Freeman, at the ripe age of 81, actively participates in most all of our local car shows. He shows at various times his Chrysler Maserati, an Impala, a Fleetwood Caddy, among others. He has been a car salesman all his working life and has finally only recently retired. Actually he's retired five times in the last few years but car dealerships keep calling him to come work for them.

As a car salesman he has a thick book of all his past clients, some of which are James Brown, Al Lewis, various NYC mayors, actors, boxers, and notable active in the civil rights movement of the 1960's. Julius proudly refers to himself as an "Automologist." From his scrapbook it shows that every time James Brown bought a car he came to Julius! Julius also designed and sold a number of Lincolns and Caddys in the 70's that could only be best described as the stereotypical "Pimpmobiles." These cars had leather coated body work and included a huge wide brim hat with each car.

But, his most notable achievement is that he is a Tuskegee Airman! Note the pictures and airplane on his hood, and all the medals he wears on his jacket. In his pocket is his Congressional Gold Medal presented to him by Pres. Bush. His stories and pictures are a real treat at all the shows. The show season is over for this year but if any of you want to meet this truly unique and interesting American you will have to visit him at a show next summer.

Sounds like an interesting guy. I love those P51 Mustangs. The engines are still being used in hydroplane races today (I saw one race this summer in the Detroit river).

I probably helped build his Cadillac when I used to work at the Fleetwood plant.:D

I wonder if he knew an old mayor of Detroit, the late Coleman Young, who was also a Tuskegee Airman?

Too bad you couldn't talk him into coming to Carlisle! He sure sounds like a fun guy!!

Really cool story. I can't help it but he really reminds me of someone... I can't just put a finger on it yet...
