I'm starting to shop around for a replacement for the Mark. What a tough job! I recently took a Ford Edge for a test drive and liked it a lot. (265 hp and decent gas mileage). The Lincoln MKX, a similar product, is finished inside much nicer as it should be. Apparently the front end is different but I suspect the drive train is the same.

I think my company has an great discount on several brands, including Ford for new cars. If I could find a good deal on an '07, I might pull the trigger. The Edge is build locally which is a consideration too.

By the way, I also looked at Mazda CX7's.... Don't like 'em. Murano's don't do if for me either. Infinity FX 35/45's are out of my price range. But I sure like the look!

Anyway, I value any input from this team. If you have any thoughts, I'd appreciate it.

I had a Ford Edge as a rental as my Mountaineer had a run in with a 15 year old driver learning to drive.

I liked it but can't say I was overwhelmed with it. A bit too much hard plastic and some design oversights such as the lack of the ability close the center vents off.

Overall though I thought it was competitively priced and designed for its segment. It drove well and had plenty of power.

As far as the MKX compared to the Edge, I think the MKX wins. They do share the same powertrain, but the design on the MKX is above the Edge in many ways. Is it worth the price difference? I dunno. That's up to you.

Neil, replacement?? Well, I just saw on the Forbes list of 15 best value cars that the MKX was rated pretty high. I found it through yahoo. But that's all that I've heard on either car.

The MKX is WAY more expensive than the Edge... they share identical drive-trains etc. I would recommend sticking with the edge...

Also used FX35s are pretty affordable... I was looking at them at one point.

There is a huge price difference but I think the MKX is better designed although I've never been in one.

Guess it's all about the size of your wallet and your personal preference.

Hi Trixie: Boy, I'm torn about replacing the Mark. It has 215K Km on it now. What a super car it's been. Can't believe it's been 5 years+ since I brought it home. I'd be reallllllly tempted to pick up another one out of the southern US of A with 70K miles or so. I see them on eBay. Even though the Beaver buck is really strong right now, it's a pain to import them.... But I found a dealer who would do it for a reasonable price??? I'm not in hurry, just thinkin'. You know the drill, buy a car when you don't need one. You'll find a better deal! Nice to hear from you. I trust all is well.

So what if your Mark has 215k on it? My cougar had 212k on it and it still ran like a champ, in fact it still does and is a daily driver for one of my co-workers daughter. I never should of sold it. You do a lot of bonding with a car when you put that many miles on it.

I know they can get more expensive in their age, but I truly think that age is harder on cars in mileage, especially if well taken care of. Heck, look at the mileage on all my cars, guess I have a thing for high mileage cars, or I'm just cheap. ;-)

Yep Neil, all is well here! Well, as long as you stay in the Lincoln family, I guess I shouldn't complain, huh? ;)
