Auto down window switch

The black face plate for the passenger side window switch on the driver's door popped off. I glued it back up but I'm ordering a replacement for the inevitable day when it pops off again and is lost. Anyway, in looking at the parts list I see that the driver's window auto down switch is nearly double the cost of the switch for the passenger window. Does anyone know if the auto down features are built into the driver side switch? If so, would it be possible to substitute a driver's window switch for the passenger window switch and thus have an auto down feature for that window also? Again, both these switches are in the driver's door.

RE: Auto down window switch

I believe the auto down feature is built into a separate module in the dashboard. Swapping the switch won't solve it ... but you can have a module installed to take care of auto up and down on both sides.

RE: Auto down window switch

On my 93, there is something called the one touch window down control module that is wired into the drivers window switch. It is located inside the door panel. I priced the module when I was looking into adding the feature to my pass. window, but all I can remember was that it was too expensive to rationalize the effort and expense at that time.

shhhh... I'll just have to come up with a "stealth switch!"

RE: Auto down window switch

Ha - I had actually asked for a link to more pics of your car - and then had used those reading skills to see that you already had one posted. Nice stuff

RE: Auto down window switch

But Leo, if you replace your drivers window switch with a passenger window switch, how will you ever get your drivers window down?!?!

Ha! Ha! Sorry.....couldn't resist.

Oh, they probably have the drivers switch more expensive because that's the one most people need.

RE: Auto down window switch

The second gens have a dual stage switch for the drivers side. The feature can also be disabled in the message center. It is a different setup from the gen 1's. You might be able to do it, but i doubt it.

RE: Auto down window switch

Upon closer inspection it turns out that the driver's door switches are a single module with both switches built in. The parts list is a little confusing as it seemed to indicate separate prices for the switches within the door, actually it is referring to the driver's door dual switch module and the passenger door single switch.

I ordered the switch and once I take out my old one I'll fiddle with it to see if the switches can be removed and replced. I'll keep you all posted when I do it.
