Back to Ubly Oct 26

Former LOD President
We went back out to Ubly Dragway today. It was the last day they're open for the season. Temp was around 50 degrees.

We made it out there with my lincoln, and two '89 XR7's, both with supercharged 3.8's, one with a stick, one with an automatic.

The stick car got a best of 14.6, i got a best of 14.7 (again), and the automatic XR7 got a best of 14.8. They were running right around 90 mph, though, and i was running 96-100 mph.

Ther place was deserted today. You could run as many times as you wanted, just drive right up to the lights. I made 28 passes today. Ran slammed, at stock height, and in between. Tried out some slicks. Let it shift itself, and shifted manually. Figured out that i can bump up my mph just a tad if i let it hit third right before the line. It shifts hard enough to help me out. For the most part though, i did best shifing manually 1-2, then popping it in drive so it uses 3rd, flashing the t/c from idle, and running all but slammed. Slamming it seems to help the speed by 1-2 mph.

My bests of the day:
Best e/t: 14.799
Best mph: 100.381
Best reaction: .503

Car was running lots of 14.9's and 15.0's. Got a couple of 14.8's and a 14.7 out of it. Most of my reaction times were in the .6-.8 range, but i got 2-3 nearly perfect, and red lighted 2-3 times (got a .499, that was kinda frustrating). My mph's were running 96-97 at stock height, and 98-99 slammed, with one 100 mph pass. Am i the first to run 100 in the quarter with no power adders and stock gears? I was really pushing for that 100 mph, i had a 99.1 and a 99.9 right before it.

Today was definitely a good day though. I have some crazy burnout pictures of myself with the slicks. I just roasted the hell out of them for the camera. I could barely see the tree when it was time to run. We got there at 1:30 and left at 5:00, but we left for an hour to run to the auto parts store in the next town to pick some stuff up for one of the cougars. So that's 28 runs in 2.5 hours at the track, and i took plenty of breaks between runs.

where was I ? damn, guys. Lappeer is open until late December...
BTW, we're at Milan last Wednesday - still crappy times, but beat a silver Marauder by a lot ... LOL. The guy said he had a 97 Mark VIII with a Vortech and stuff couple years ago and he ran 11.6 or so. All the work was done at Livernois Motorsport. Yet, he never heard of Dennis Reinhart or LMS. He had some kind of crappy chip in the Marauder, but it didn't help too much.
Good times, Dave.

KICK ASS! Hitting 100+ is a mile stone. I ran a couple 100+ runs with 3.07's. But I think you are the first n/a gen 2 to do it though. I told you guys that gen 2 intake was holding you guys back. That stock manifold blows.

I don't have the slips in front of me today, but i was running mostly 2.2-2.3. I got one or two 2.1's.

One of the 2.1 60' times was the last run of the day, and the car hesitated when it hit second. That kind of ruined that run, it probably would have been another 14.7 but it became a 14.9. It's like it went to third then back to second. I was letting it shift automatically. It did it again a couple of times on the way home, but eventually went back to normal. that's probably because the tranny was too hot. I was making back to back runs with slicks and doing crazy (excessive :)) burnouts, and i don't have a tranny cooler.

My friends in the cougars were running a lot better 60' times (mostly 2.0-2.1, with an occasional 1.9) but they were getting trap speeds of like 90 mph. Plus, my reaction time was good enough (they kept getting like 1.1's) that i could pull ahead where they would never catch up. I'd leave, then they'd leave and pull almost even, then i'd hit second and start to drive away. They would occasionally run a better time than me, but i always got the win light.

Jeremi, i should have given you a call. As of Friday, though, we weren't planning on going because the weather was looking bad. We didn't really decide to go until Saturday night. It turned out to be perfect drag racing weather. And NOBODY was there. I was car 35, and i didn't see anyone show up after us.

I flogged my car pretty hard. The only change since last weekend is the intake tube, i have the actual cobra one on now (doesn't fit quite right, but it's on there). I'm going to have to make sure the tranny fluid isn't burnt. It'll get changed this winter when i do the t/c anyway, but i plan on driving it to florida for thanksgiving so i need to make sure it's still good. The back tires are kinda rough too (read: bald). I'm gonna have to do something about that, too, but i hate to put new tires on it, drive it 2000 miles, then park it for the winter.

That was the one where i couldn't see the tree because of the smoke. A friend of mine has it on video, and he said he can put it on his computer. So i may be able to get a good screenshot off the video.
