If im thinking correctly, doesn't the 97 and 98 marks have the antenna in the window? would you be able to put one in a 96 and the antenna be functional or no? I dont really like the power antenna to say the least.
 
You'd have to attach the present antenna wire to the pigtail from the back window one...don't know if it's possible or not. I'm sure Jamie should know.....
 
i have put a gen 2 back window into a gen 1 twice but i left the factory 1st gen antenna where it is. the 2nd gens use a am/fm signal booster mounted on the rear deck under the carpet next to the 3rd brake light which has a coax going in and out of it so i'm not sure how much work it would be to get it working, you cant just hook the antenna coax to the glass or you'll get crap for a signal.
