Okay, so here's the story. In California you are not supposed to touch the Cats. So can anyone that either lives in Cali or know about the states laws, give me my best option for a exhaust set-up? I am open to any suggestions.

And is a 1995 Lincoln Mark, Manf. Date 5/95, OBD 1 or 2?

The legal way:

You can redo the exhaust, but you will need to use the stock cats and O2 sensors.

The illegal way:

You can redo your exhaust using high flow cats, then find a shop who will "forget" to look at your cats for an extra $50. As long as you pass the sniff test, they really couldn't care less. There are MANY shops that are willing to do this. Your exhaust installers will probably know who they are.

...or...MY way.

cut open the third cat, remove the honeycomb, and fab in a true Y-pipe, re-weld it all back together with the stock heat shields so it looks stock, and install it back on the car.

these cars "sniff" so clean anyway, the third cat is just a power-killer.

Here is my buddy Joe's car...here's the set up

removed third cat(as described above) removed resonator, installed a single flowmaster 1-chamber(looks just like your resonator), straight pipe all the way back in to reactive tips.

it sounds AMAZING, and the new-found low-end, and mid-range torque are undescribable.

(it was very cold out...that isnt "smoke"...it's exhaust condensation)
idle, then 2 revs.

I've also heard that using the Magnaflow two-in two-out muffler with built-in x-pipe makes a nice replacement for the third cat.

I'm about to remove my 3rd cat with an LMS x-pipe. I will still pass the visual, I know a shop or 2 in SF that will let you pass the visual for a small kickback. I have Bullet mufflers right now with stock extended tips, it doesn't sound deep enough or loud enough at this point hopefully this will help it.

The thing about the "visual" in California, with the addition of the drive-on test dyno, you'll be hard pressed to find a smog tech that can even see underneath the car. But one thing's for sure...the third cat is a 100% power-killer.

it's a bi-annual inspection...get it smogged, zap in the third cat replacement method for two years, then come the next smog test, put it back to stock...

He's right...they don't exert themselves during the visual inspection...

Will be interesting to see with the new setup. Kooks headers, no cats, egr delete, stage 1 cams. I wonder if it will pass?}( Just got to find the right guy to go to. Just don't drive your car in sounding like this http://videos.streetfire.net/video/79886461-3CA1-4804-AE77-31D61EFCB75F.htm Damn Kalifornia.

Very tough to find a guy who will pass that car. It won't pass anything.

That bribe will be in the hundreds...if you can find someone willing to do it.

HaHa. You'd be suprised, especially cause I know the local smog referees.

I'm not really surprised...if you got the hook ups it is easier.

Fortunately for you the consumer rarely gets caught...it's the smog testers that do the jail time. For him to pass your car, he would have to drive his Honda onto the treadmill and pass it off as your car. He probably wouldn't hesitate if he knows you (read: you're not an undercover agent for the state).

And just as a sidenote, the emissions limits are based on what the average emissions are for the model and year of the vehicle being tested. They take the average of all those cars from the past year and add, oh, three standard deviations or so. This way, if you are out of spec, it is because your car is either modified or an emissions control device is actually not working right.
