Ok Im in welding class, and auto class. I got access to a car lift and a full welding tools. I want to know whats the best exhaust setup, I looking for power, and not worried to much about sound. Can you all post pics of the bottom of you car. Should I go with 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust. Price aint a thing because no labor cost. Just mufflers and dual x pipes. Oh ya where can I get S.S exhaust pipes

RE: BEST SETUP

If you're seriously looking for power, start with headers, either LTs or 3/4 lenghts, and then 2.5 inch setup. 3" is too much for most marks out there, unless of course you're planing on making some serious 500 hp or more power.

RE: BEST SETUP

IMO, you need more experience before you tackle an entire exhaust system. It is a crappy job, pretty difficult for first timers, and i hate doing it, and I have a lot of welding experience.

I suggest you go buy some MAC headers and modify those. I can tell you how to modify them. I have a ton of pictures for you to look at as well to guide you. I can tell you where to pick them up for around 300$.

RE: BEST SETUP

Headers are down the rode. I was in welding for a year already and I got the basics. Plus I have a teacher there to help whos got 20+ years of know how. Do you guys with the third cat removed pass the emission test? I want to remove that. I dont know for sure if we have a certain tools to bend the pipe but I was thinking of heating them up and bending them.

RE: BEST SETUP

Heating thin walled pipe with a torch and trying to bend it will result in massive crimping of the pipe. YOu need a pipe bender made for exhasut pipe.

Headers are really difficult to install. The reward is worth the effort though. It still takes me 8 hours to install them. I will be helping ELi put them on his car soon. Hopefully we can do it in 6 hours. It only took me about 12-14 hours the first time.

I think longtubes should be the first modification to these cars. IT is the most powerful bolt on you can add, and it will pay for itself down the road with the added fuel economy. Your car will not be as torqueless after headers. I have said this time and time again, but people are scared away from the cost and effort. Instead they like to put lots of little bolt ons on their car over a long period of time.

RE: BEST SETUP

Joe, how much of an advantage do you think that custom long tubes have over the kooks mid-lengths? Headers are on my list, definitely near the top, but while the install doesn't worry me, the fabrication of the actual primaries does.

RE: BEST SETUP

What is needed for the job. Any unbasic tools. And Joe wanna help me cause you have the know how. I will pay you. I still want cats on my car cause emission so can I cut off the cats and put them on the new headers.

RE: BEST SETUP

Cut the Cats OFF !!!... LoL I did it.. hopefully we are moving to Florida Next year. Won't have to deal with those damn emissions.

RE: BEST SETUP

i should have the headers ready to ship out next week. they would have been done this week but the pipes came in wrong.

RE: BEST SETUP

Whatever you do, dont try and heat the pipe and bend it.Either have an exhaust shop make the bends for you.Or you can buy prebent pipe from a few suppliers.Buy either U bends or for a tighter radius buy J bends. Then you have something to start with.
