RE: Best sounding muffler I've heard yet.

I have to say they DO SOUND awsome. If I got mufflers these would be it. Damn I should have made a video clip. *slaps self*

RE: Best sounding muffler I've heard yet.

forgot you had a video camera with you. I was just anxious to jump in behind the wheel and try them out. I took it down the street, and back at WOT...but the best part is cruising through town...want to advertise? accelerate...want to remain quiet... cruise.

Many thought these would be too loud. No way. almost silent at steady throttle, and I could go louder at WOT, but these will do for a California car!

funky welds, but no leaks. I'll clean it up nicely next time I rack it at the shop, and spray them BBQ black.

retained the stock-appearing tips from my magnaflows, so it still looks stock from behind...just doesnt sound stock anymore!

I presume being in California, this is on a stock exhaust?

Buy a pair of cheap used hi-miler hard rubber tires to simulate a trac-lok. :7

Hey Craig on a second thought, do you really think straight pipes would be that much louder than these? I mean these are pretty much like straight pipes. I wanted to go with 2 straight pipes and leave the mufflers out completely, but I was scarred of drone, but as you said these don't drone and at $33 a piece they cost almost as much as a pipe :). Now I have to find some good tips.

RE: Best sounding muffler I've heard yet.

Max, find your local muffler shop, and check out their tip selection. I'm sure you'll find something you'll like.

These mufflers are quite a bit quieter than open pipes/straight pipes. I've heard a stock Mark VIII single exhaust with open pipes(mufflers hacked off)...you'd hate it on the freeway, or around 1850-2100 rpms...
Besides, these bullets give it "tone"...not just noise.

oh hell yea... 90% of the time both tires are boiling with my stock 3.07...but when it counts(on video), it didnt!

I have an old video clip of me at the drag strip a couple years ago, and the left is doing a fine job of clouding the camera!

Zach

My old 97 stock mark non-lsc would spin both sides no problem on a flat road.

Max whatever you do don't get straight pipes. 1st you can't pass smog with that setup and second you will lose all your torque. Getting some Bullets and tips would be a great place to start with modding the exhaust. Make sure you get the 2.5 inch ones.

They will fit a 93-98 Mark VIII. they are Dynomax race bullets.

RE: Best sounding muffler I've heard yet.

My exhaust isn't stock though...thats why they may not fit (It's actually quite different, even compared to the ART system).

RE: Best sounding muffler I've heard yet.

Craig,

So just to clarify (I don't think you did), these are on a stock exhaust?

Any drone at all?

If the answers are "Yes" followed by a solid "No", then I may just have to try out this setup. I just don't have the money to spare for a full exhaust.

RE: Best sounding muffler I've heard yet.

By the way, how about a clip with the car in park, and just revving it?

RE: Best sounding muffler I've heard yet.

Mark,
stock exhaust- YES(sort of-removed resonator after 3rd cat-base/single exhaust)

drone?-slight...1800, under light throttle. Not nearly as much as a flowmaster, and only if you allow it to drone with your right foot under load.

clip in neutral-will do...in car, in park, revving a couple times. I will also record a mild acceleration clip in the car so you can hear the "tone".

Now that they are "seasoned", they sound even better. They remind me of the trick exhaust set up I used to have on another car, only less drone, and $62.00 in parts.
